Diane Keaton<\/strong> may have shared romances with some of Hollywood\u2019s most famous leading men \u2014 but the Oscar-winning star, who died at age 79<\/a> in California on October 11, always knew marriage wasn\u2019t for her.<\/p>\n In one of her most revealing interviews, the beloved actress opened up to People<\/em><\/a> in 2019 about why she chose to stay single.<\/p>\n \u201cToday I was thinking about this,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cI\u2019m 73 and I think I\u2019m the only one in my generation, and maybe before, who has been a single woman all her life.\u201d<\/p>\n The Annie Hall<\/em> icon famously dated Al Pacino<\/strong>, Warren Beatty<\/strong> and Woody Allen<\/strong> \u2014 yet she never walked down the aisle. Reflecting on that decision, she admitted it would not \u201chave been a good idea for me to have married,\u201d adding, \u201cI\u2019m really glad I didn\u2019t, and I\u2019m sure they\u2019re happy about it, too.\u201d<\/p>\n Keaton revealed that her reluctance to marry stretched all the way back to her teenage years. \u201cI remember one day in high school, this guy came up to me and said, \u2018One day you\u2019re going to make a good wife,\u2019\u201d she recalled. \u201cAnd I thought, \u2018I don\u2019t want to be a wife. No.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Even in her later years, the actress said she had no interest in dating again.<\/p>\n Speaking to AARP<\/a> <\/em>in 2023, she confessed, \u201cI don\u2019t date,\u201d calling it \u201chighly unlikely\u201d she\u2019d ever pursue another relationship. \u201cI don\u2019t remember anyone calling me, going, \u2018This is So-and-So, I\u2019d like to take you out.\u2019 They don\u2019t happen. Of course not.\u201d<\/p>\n Though she never married, Keaton found love in motherhood, adopting her daughter, Dexter<\/strong>, and son, Duke<\/strong>, in her 50s.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t think that I was ever going to be prepared to be a mother,\u201d she told Ladies\u2019 Home Journal<\/em> in 2008, per celebrity.land<\/em><\/a>. \u201cMotherhood was not an urge I couldn\u2019t resist. It was more like a thought I\u2019d been thinking for a very long time.
