While the late Diane Keaton<\/strong><\/a> was most notably known for her many iconic roles, the famed actress found other, lesser known ways of expressing her creativity.<\/p>\n

In addition to acting, Keaton \u2014 who died on Saturday, October 11<\/a>, at age 79 \u2014 was also a director, sitting behind the camera for music videos, movies and television shows<\/p>\n

The Family Stone<\/em> star famously \u2014 and perhaps surprisingly \u2014 even starred in Justin Bieber\u2019s<\/strong> music video for his 2021 hit, \u201cGhost.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSomehow I was part of that song and they asked me to be part of singing that song with them at the beach,\u201d Keaton recalled of her time working with the pop star in a video reshared by Access Hollywood<\/em> via Instagram<\/a> shortly after her death. \u201cAnd it was so much, it was so great. And he was a gentleman. He\u2019s a great guy and so talented and I love that song.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCelebrities are mourning the loss of Diane Keaton, who died at age 79. People broke the news of her death on Saturday, October 11, confirming that The Godfather star died in California. The Something\u2019s Gotta Give<\/em> star also directed an episode of Twin Peaks<\/em> in 1991, as well as a 1990 episode of the series China Beach<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Keaton didn\u2019t speak about her directing career frequently, but in an April 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> she explained that directing was tougher than she expected.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought I could do it, but really, it was rough. I don\u2019t mean [people] were rough or anyone, it was me. Sometimes it\u2019d be a little easier, and then other times you\u2019d be anxious,\u201d she explained. \u201cYou need to really be on it and really smart about what you\u2019re delving into with the subject that you\u2019ve been given. I get that as an actress more \u2014 or an actor type or whatever I am \u2014 just by being one of the characters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keaton also directed two music videos for Belinda Carlisle\u2019s popular songs, \u201cHeaven Is A Place on Earth\u201d and \u201cI Got Weak.\u201d (The latter was Carlisle\u2019s second release following the success of the former, and reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1988.)<\/p>\n

She was kind and eccentric and I was blessed to know her. This is such a big loss\u2026 \ud83d\udc94\ud83d\udc94\ud83d\udc94 RIP Diane you will be missed\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keaton also directed a young Reese Witherspoon<\/strong><\/a> in the 1991 made for TV film Wildflower. Witherspoon, 49, starred as Ellie, the sister of William McNamara\u2019s<\/strong> Sammy Perkins and daughter of Patricia Arquette<\/a>\u2019s<\/strong> Alice.<\/p>\n

Witherspoon recalled auditioning<\/a> for the role with Keaton while speaking to a crowd on Saturday shortly after news of Keaton\u2019s death broke.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m tearing up, but I don\u2019t know if you guys heard that Diane Keaton passed today,\u201d Witherspoon began in a video shared via Instagram. \u201cDiane was really important. She was one of my first mentors in this business. I was 15 years old and I was from Nashville, Tennessee, and I didn\u2019t know anybody and I came in. It was my second, maybe my third movie audition ever.\u201d<\/p>\n
