A longtime film star recently opened up about returning to a classic movie series.<\/p>\n
Laurence Fishburne<\/a>, who played Morpheus in the iconic \u201cMatrix\u201d franchise, said it wouldn\u2019t be so simple for him to reprise his well-known role.<\/p>\n The actor was noncommittal when asked if he would return for an upcoming fifth installment of \u201cThe Matrix<\/a>\u201d during a reunion panel at New York Comic Con over the weekend. <\/p>\n \u201cIt depends on how good it is, really,\u201d Fishburne said, per <\/a>Variety<\/a>. \u201cIf it\u2019s great, then yeah, if it makes sense. I don\u2019t know if it makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n It was announced in 2024 that screenwriter Drew Goddard would write and direct the new Matrix film. This will be the first Matrix movie not led by Lana and Lilly Wachowski although Lana will serve as an executive producer. <\/p>\n Fishburne, 64, said that he reached out to Lana Wachowski about joining \u201cThe Matrix Resurrections,\u201d the series\u2019 fourth film which released in 2021, but was not invited to return.<\/p>\n Yaya Abdul-Mateen II<\/a> was casted as Morpheus in Resurrections. <\/p>\n \u201cI reached out,\u201d Fishburne said. \u201cIt just didn\u2019t pan out. I said, \u2018Thank you very much,\u2019 and Lana said, \u2018Thank you very much, I\u2019ll think about it,\u2019 and that was that.\u201d<\/p>\n He has yet to be approached about a return for the fifth film as well, per the report. It has not been announced whether stars Keanu Reeves<\/a> and Carrie-Anne Moss<\/a> will return for the next film . <\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s no movie that comes after The Matrix that\u2019s a sci-fi action or fantasy movie that\u2019s not been influenced by it,\u201d Fishburne said. \u201cIt\u2019s everywhere. It\u2019s so pervasive you almost forget where it came from at this point. Now, people don\u2019t realize, but no Matrix, no MCU.
