That, at least, is a timeless classic, one that could quite easily be made today. Some movies are so wonderfully weird and offensive they could <strong>never<\/strong> be made today, including <em>Big Trouble in Little China<\/em>, an \u201880s cult classic now streaming for free on Tubi.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\"><strong>A Cast Filled With Screen Icons<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The plot of <em>Big Trouble in Little China<\/em> starts with a charming but cantankerous truck driver just trying to collect on a bet when he sees a woman kidnapped by violent gang members. When he tries to track the gang down and save her, he ends up deeper and deeper in a world of martial artists and magical powers. The movie also stars Dennis Dun (known best outside this movie for <em>Prince of Darkness<\/em>) as a man whose fianc\u00e9e is kidnapped by a sorcerer with dark magical powers. That sorcerer is played by genre legend James Hong, somebody best known to Westerners for <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.giantfreakinrobot.com\/topic\/everything-everywhere-all-at-once\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Everything Everywhere All At Once;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Everything Everywhere All At Once<\/a><\/em> and his voice work in <em>Kung-Fu Panda<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\"><strong>A Sidekick Who Doesn\u2019t Know He\u2019s A Sidekick<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The best part of this quirky cast is Kurt Russell (best known for <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.giantfreakinrobot.com\/topic\/escape-from-new-york\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Escape From New York;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Escape From New York<\/a><\/em>, another John Carpenter film), whose truck driver is all crass jokes and cocky bravado. He\u2019s never willing to admit that he\u2019s in over his head, which is why this talented trucker doesn\u2019t hesitate to throw down with a powerful sorcerer who even an ancient curse could not take out. He\u2019s an \u201880s action hero who accidentally wandered into a \u201970s-style kung fu film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The film\u2019s East meets West humor is a large part of what makes it so memorably funny. It helps that Russell is so charismatic in this role, serving as an audience surrogate who reacts to the utterly insane events around him just like we would in his place (though we might not be as good with the knife-throwing).<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\"><strong>How Aliens Kneecapped Big Trouble In Little China<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Sadly, audiences at the time didn\u2019t know what to make of <em>Big Trouble in Little China<\/em>, and the film only earned $11.1 million at the box office against a budget estimated somewhere between $19 to $25 million.
