Ian Freebairn-Smith<\/a>, the Grammy-winning composer who arranged \u201cEvergreen\u201d from \u201cA Star Is Born<\/a>,\u201d died on Oct. 7 in Folsom, Calif. He was 93.<\/p>\n

The composer, vocalist and arranger was widely recognized for his work that shaped many of Hollywood\u2019s most notable film and TV soundtracks.<\/p>\n

In the 1970s and 1980s, he composed scores for TV shows such as \u201cAirwolf<\/a>,\u201d \u201cFame,\u201d \u201cCagney & Lacey<\/a>,\u201d \u201cMagnum, P.I.<\/a>\u201d and \u201cSeven Brides for Seven Brothers<\/a>,\u201d collaborating with songwriter Jimmy Webb<\/a> on a theme song for the latter.<\/p>\n

The Seattle native moved to Los Angeles in 1934 and began his career as a group singer with The Singers Incorporated, working alongside fellow vocalists Perry Botkin, Jr.<\/a>, Sue Allen<\/a>, Jimmy Bryant<\/a> and George Tipton<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 1977, he won a Grammy award for best arrangement accompanying a vocalist for \u201cEvergreen,\u201d which was performed by Barbra Streisand<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His credits also include scores for several TV movies like \u201cThe Curious Case Of…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
