Mavericks frontmanRaul Malo<\/strong><\/a> has reached an important milestone in his ongoing battle with stage 4 colon cancer<\/a>. The Grammy-winning singer, who revealed his diagnosis in 2024, has been fighting through an intense year of treatments while continuing to share his journey with fans.<\/p>\n Now, in an emotional update, Malo\u2019s wife, Betty Malo<\/strong>, shared that the 60-year-old singer has completed his latest round of radiation. And, true to who he is, he marked the moment at the piano.<\/p>\n \u201cYesterday marked (Raul Malo\u2019s) last day of radiation \u2014 and he did it like the true champion he is!\u201d Betty recently shared on Instagram<\/a>, alongside a video of her husband seated at the piano.<\/p>\n \u201cOnce home, Raul went straight to the piano with his mom, just as they always do. They played, laughed, and even shed a few tears. It was a moment of love, strength, and music \u2014 everything that defines him.\u201d<\/p>\n She then thanked his followers for their continued encouragement, adding, \u201cYour support means more than words can express. Raul\u2019s fight isn\u2019t over, but we\u2019re walking this journey together \u2014 surrounded by music, family, and the incredible love from all of you.\u201d<\/p>\n Fans were overjoyed by the news, writing heartfelt messages like, \u201cBeautiful in so many ways! Love seeing love in action!\u201d and \u201cHe is truly a gift in our lives! Continued prayers and strength to your beautiful family!\u201d<\/p>\n While Malo has bravely battled colon cancer for more than a year, he revealed in late September that his condition had progressed. In an update<\/a>, the singer shared he developed leptomeningeal disease (LMD), a complication that occurs when cancer spreads to the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.<\/p>\n \u201cAs it goes with cancer, it\u2019s a very unpredictable and indiscriminatory disease,\u201d Malo wrote at the time. \u201cTreatment for this is radiation, which I will start tomorrow. We will probably jump into some chemo and are even looking at alternative therapies. But it\u2019s time to take to heart your words of resting & recovering, so that\u2019s what I\u2019m going to do.\u201d<\/p>\n According to the Cleveland Clinic<\/a>, leptomeningeal disease affects a small percentage of cancer patients. While it can’t be cured, doctors focus on slowing the spread of the cancer and managing symptoms to help improve comfort and quality of life.<\/p>\n Despite his initial diagnosis, Malo remained active with his band, even continuing to perform through much of 2024. However, due to the progression of his illness, the group recently announced the cancellation of all remaining tour dates<\/a>.<\/p>\n There is, however, one hopeful exception<\/a>.
