That doesn\u2019t matter so much to me \u2013 I\u2019ve seen plenty of great movies that don\u2019t earn big office bucks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This isn\u2019t one of them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">I remember the 1982 original Disney film \u201cTron.\u201d It was mind-blowing during an era when no one could imagine carrying a super-computer in your pocket, let alone one took photos. It was one of the first movies to use computer-generated imagery, and it became a cult favorite.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cTron: Ares\u201d is an exercise in nostalgia for the Gen Xers who love the original movie. It is a sequel to the 2010 \u201cTron: Legacy\u201d sequel, with a dopey story line and even worse dialogue that constantly references the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The idea here is that virtual characters from The Grid can transition to the real world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Eve Kim (Greta Lee), CEO of Encom of the scientist characters thinks artificial intelligence (AI) might not be something to dread. Maybe it will help cure diseases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Meanwhile, Jared Leto stars as Ares, the new Master Control designed to defend The Grid, has been presented by a competing company. (Ares, in Greek mythology, was the god of war.) Julian, the creator of Ares, presents Areas, whom he brings over from The Grid, in a demonstration to military customers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Problem is, anything brought from The Grid to real life, lasts only 29 minutes before it disintegrates. Now Julian seeks a permanence code.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Just in case you don\u2019t get what\u2019s going on, the audience gets references to \u201cFrankenstein\u201d and \u201cPinocchio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The plot is silly, the dialogue ridiculous, and the finale a fizzler in a movie so ineffectual even a cameo from The Dude himself can\u2019t save it. On Saturday night, there were only two other people in the auditorium with me.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">What I did like is the Nine Inch Nails soundtrack.
