\n\tIn 2025, a lot is going on in the world at any given moment \u2014 and Wale<\/a> has prepped an apt soundtrack for that phenomenon. On Nov. 14, the Grammy-nominated D.C. rapper will release his eighth studio album, Everything Is a Lot<\/em>, via Def Jam.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Billboard<\/em> chart-topping MC\u2019s new album promises to tackle the myriad stresses, life developments and global pressures he\u2019s encountered in the four years since his last studio LP, 2021\u2019s Folarin II<\/em>. That album, a sequel to his career-shifting 2012 mixtape of the same name, housed the J. Cole-assisted \u201cPoke It Out,\u201d Wale\u2019s most recent Billboard Hot 100<\/a> entry (No. 73).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOne of the underlying things is how heavy everything is in the world around me, my personal life, and the industry,\u201d he exclusively told Billboard<\/em>. \u201cI carried all of that with me and got it out of my system through this project.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWith an expansive soundscape courtesy of producers such as BNYX, Salaam Remi, Kel-P Vibes, Go Grizz, Streetrunner, Emil and Genio, EIA<\/em> will include bluesy lead single \u201cBlanco,\u201d which Wale debuted live at Dreamville earlier this year<\/a>, and \u201cWhere to Start,\u201d which samples SWV\u2019s classic 1992 hit \u201cI\u2019m So Into You.\u201d The 16-track set, recorded primarily in London and Los Angeles, will also feature genre-bending collaborations with a yet-to-be-revealed roster that includes buzzy names across R&B, hip-hop and Afrobeats.<\/p>\n

\n\tEverything Is a Lot<\/em> also serves as Wale\u2019s first full-length release under Def Jam, following six albums and over a decade with Rick Ross\u2019 Maybach Music<\/a> Group, an imprint of Warner Records. During that stint, Wale followed up his 2009 Attention Deficit<\/em> debut studio album with four Billboard 200<\/a> top 10 projects, including the No. 1 albums The Gifted<\/em> (2013) and The Album About Nothing<\/em> (2015). After a semi-public falling out<\/a> with MMG, particularly<\/a> with Meek Mill, Wale signed with Def Jam in 2023, marking a new chapter in his two-decade career. \u201cThe industry is a completely different place than it was four years ago,\u201d he reflects. \u201cThey had a purge, and a lot of people lost their jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAcross Everything Is a Lot, <\/em>Wale\u2019s primary goal was \u201cto express a certain level of vulnerability.\u201d To do so, he leaned on soulful samples and bluesy Western influences, the latter of which shine through on \u201cBlanco,\u201d the first song he completed for the forthcoming LP. \u201cIt\u2019s never as contrived as people think,\u201d he says of the album\u2019s varied production and strikingly honest tracks like \u201cLonely.\u201d \u201cIf I\u2019m in the mood to write something, I just get to it. It\u2019s all about capturing that feeling in the moment.\u201d\u00a0On \u201cFly Away,\u201d Wale samples Maxwell\u2019s classic, Grammy-winning \u201cPretty Wings\u201d for a moving number about \u201cabandonment and attachment issues,\u201d underscoring his commitment to confronting discomfort on the record.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s always been hard to keep people\u2019s attention,\u201d Wale says. \u201cThat\u2019s why my first album is called Attention Deficit<\/em>. It\u2019s become increasingly harder in this day and age, where fans are rewiring themselves to only like what the algorithm tells them to like. It\u2019s an uphill battle, so it\u2019s a blessing to be in the conversation still.\u201d<\/p>\n
