Netflix’s buzzy crime drama Black Rabbit <\/em>is filled with suspense, but the real nail-biter will be at the Golden Globes, where both Jude Law<\/strong> and Jason Bateman<\/strong> are vying for Best Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie.<\/p>\n Law plays Jake Friedken, an NYC restaurateur whose life is upended by the arrival of his estranged brother, Vince (Bateman), whose return is accompanied by troubles from the past that could destroy the family business. (Ahmed did at least win the Emmy.) In 2014, two pairs of costars \u2014 Fargo’<\/em>s Martin Freeman<\/strong> and Billy Bob Thornton<\/strong> and True Detective<\/em>‘s Woody Harrelson<\/strong> and Matthew McConaughey<\/strong> \u2014 took up four out of five slots in Best Limited\/Movie Actor, with Thornton prevailing.<\/p>\n Back in 2013 \u2014 the last halcyon days of the TV movie \u2014 Steven Soderbergh<\/strong> directed Michael Douglas<\/strong> and Matt Damon<\/strong> to Best Actor nominations for Behind the Candelabra, <\/em>with Douglas winning. A similar dynamic played out five years prior when Kevin Spacey<\/strong> and Tom Wilkinson<\/strong> found themselves competing against each other for 2008’s Recount<\/em>; they both lost to John Adams <\/em>star Giamatti. (Wilkinson won the supporting TV actor prize that same year for his performance in John Adams<\/em>.)<\/p>\n Going further back, the 2000 limited series Nuremberg <\/em>reaped bids for Alec Baldwin<\/strong> and Brian Cox<\/strong>, with the prize going to Brian Dennehy<\/strong> for Death of a Salesman<\/em>. In 1986, James Woods<\/strong> beat out costar James Garner<\/strong> for his performance in the TV movie Promise<\/em>. Anthony Andrews<\/strong> similarly bested Jeremy Irons<\/strong> for the 1982 television adaptation of Brideshead Revisited<\/em>. In 1981, Peter O’Toole<\/strong> and Peter Strauss<\/strong> found themselves in competition for the limited series Masada, <\/em>with both losing to Mickey Rooney<\/strong> in Bill.<\/em><\/p>\n So what does that mean for Law and Bateman, both of whom are extremely popular at the Golden Globes? Law has competed four times, three times for films (The Talented Mr. Ripley, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence,<\/em> Cold Mountain<\/em>), and once for TV (The Young Pope<\/em>).
