During the Matrix<\/em> reunion panel at NYCC, Laurence Fishburne made a somewhat definitive statement about his franchise return. While he has voiced and acted as the character Morpheus in the Matrix series for the better part of two decades, Fishburne isn’t sure if he’ll ever return to the films. While singing the original film’s praises, Fishburne admitted that he doesn’t know if a Matrix <\/em>return “makes sense.” Although this is somewhat troubling news for longtime fans of the character, it demonstrates an incredible amount of tact on the actor’s part.<\/p>\n

“It depends on how good it is, really. … If it\u2019s great, then yeah, if it makes sense. I don\u2019t know if it makes sense,” Fishburne said at the NYCC Matrix<\/em> reunion panel.<\/p>\n

If more actors showed this amount of self-awareness, there would be a lot more originality in Hollywood. While this statement can be somewhat disappointing, it demonstrates Fishburne’s deep appreciation for what many consider his breakout role. In recognizing the iconic role his character served in the franchise, he also understands the importance of his overall story arc. Moreover, the actor likely has many more important undertakings than another sequel to an already oversaturated franchise.<\/p>\n
