Atlanta rapper Future is facing legal trouble<\/a> after the release of his 2024 project Mixtape Pluto.<\/p>\n On Oct. 2, Atlanta-based photographer Garey C. Gomez filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Titol Retail, Wilburn Holding Company, Future (real name Nayvadius Wilburn), and his label Freebandz.<\/p>\n According to the court documents reviewed by Complex<\/a>, Gomez alleges that the defendants \u201ccopied Gomez\u2019s copyrighted works from the internet in order to advertise, market and promote their business activities\u201d with the \u201cpurposes of advertising and promoting sales to the public.\u201d<\/p>\n At the center of the dispute are two of Gomez\u2019s photographs \u2014 officially registered with the U.S. Copyright Office \u2014 which he claims were used without his permission. One of the images appeared as the cover art for Mixtape Pluto and was repurposed for merchandise sold online.<\/p>\n Gomez is citing \u201cirreparable\u201d harm<\/a> and is seeking damages, though the lawsuit does not specify an amount.<\/p>\n He is, however, requesting \u201cprofits attributable to the infringement,\u201d indicating that any revenue generated from the unauthorized use of his work should be factored into the compensation.<\/p>\n Released on September 20, 2024, Mixtape Pluto marked Future\u2019s seventeenth mixtape and his first to be released as a commercial project.
