He was 51.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life,\u201d his family said in a statement to <em>Us Weekly<\/em> on Tuesday, October 14. \u201cAfter a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D\u2019Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D\u2019Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today, October 14th, 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement continued, \u201cWe are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family, but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time but invite you all to join us in mourning his passing while also celebrating the gift of song that he has left for the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>RCA Records also addressed D\u2019Angelo\u2019s death, telling <em>Us<\/em> in a statement, \u201cWe are deeply saddened by the passing of D\u2019Angelo. He was a peerless visionary who effortlessly blended the classic sounds of soul, funk, gospel, R&amp;B, and jazz with a hip-hop sensibility. A known perfectionist, D\u2019Angelo released three albums that were widely celebrated as masterpieces by both the music community and his beloved fans around the world. He was heavily awarded and critically acclaimed for his talents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/balleralert.com\/profiles\/blogs\/dangelo-dead-pancreatic-cancer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Baller Alert<\/em><\/a> was the first to report the news.<\/p>\n<p>The singer died in New York City, sources connected to his family and former manager <strong>Kedar Massenberg<\/strong> told <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2025\/10\/14\/dangelo-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>TMZ<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>D\u2019Angelo was best known for his 1995 debut album, <em>Brown Sugar<\/em>, which helped kickstart the neo-soul movement. The album contained hits including \u201cLady,\u201d \u201cCruisin\u2019\u201d and \u201cBrown Sugar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His 2000 single \u201cUntitled (How Does It Feel)\u201d from his second studio album, <em>Voodoo<\/em>, earned D\u2019Angelo a Grammy Award for Best Male R&amp;B Vocal Performance. The album also won Best R&amp;B Album.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUntitled\u201d also became known for its steamy music video, which showcased the singer\u2019s nude body from the waist up. The video solidified D\u2019Angelo\u2019s status as a sex symbol.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"D&#039;Angelo - Untitled (How Does It Feel) (Official Music Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SxVNOnPyvIU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>D\u2019Angelo later went on to win Grammys for his third and final studio album, <em>Black Messiah<\/em>, and the single \u201cReally Love\u201d in 2016. He received several other Grammy nominations throughout his career, including one for Best R&amp;B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1999 for his collaboration with <strong>Lauryn Hill<\/strong>, \u201cNothing Even Matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Less than one year before D\u2019Angelo\u2019s death, singer and songwriter <strong>Raphael Saadiq<\/strong> said on the \u201cRolling Stone Music Now\u201d podcast that the Virginia native had been working on his fourth album.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cD\u2019s in a good space right now,\u201d Saadiq, 59, said. \u201cI talked to him a couple times. He\u2019s excited. We don\u2019t talk much, but when we do talk it\u2019s crazy, like, \u2018Oh, you gotta hear this!\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018You gotta play bass. I\u2019ve got this track. I\u2019m telling you, you got to get on it. It got your name all over it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cHe\u2019s working on six pieces right now and he seems super excited. He\u2019s in control of his own destiny at this point. He has a management team, but they can\u2019t make him do anything that he don\u2019t wanna do. It\u2019s just always been that way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>D\u2019Angelo is survived by two sons and a daughter.
