The R&B community and several figures across the music industry have penned colorful tributes dedicated to neo-soul legend D\u2019Angelo. The 51 year-old died<\/a> Tuesday morning of cancer, the singer\u2019s family confirmed in a statement to Variety.<\/p>\n D\u2019Angelo released three albums throughout his career including his debut \u201cBrown Sugar,\u201d \u201cVoodoo\u201d and his last album, 2014\u2019s \u201cBlack Messiah\u201d with the Vanguard. He became well-known for crafting a blend of R&B and hip-hop and went on to win four Grammy Awards.<\/p>\n More from Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n DJ Premier was amongst the first voices on social media to share his condolences. He called <\/a>the pioneer\u2019s death \u201csuch a sad loss,\u201d adding they had \u201cmany great times\u201d together. \u201cGonna miss you so much,\u201d concluded Premier. \u201cSleep Peacefully D\u2019 Love You KING.\u201d<\/p>\n Doja Cat shared words on X<\/a>, writing, \u201cRest in peace D\u2019angelo. My thoughts, love and prayers go out to his family and friends. A true voice of soul and inspiration to many brilliant artists of our generation and generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cRest Peacefully D\u2019Angelo,\u201d wrote Missy Elliott in a post<\/a>. \u201cNo parent want to see their children go but it\u2019s painful for children to see their parents go to so send prayers up for his son who also lost his mom this year for strength.\u201d<\/p>\n Jill Scott, another influential figure in neo-soul, said<\/a>: \u201cI told you a long time ago-You ain\u2019t gon understand everything & everything ain\u2019t meant 4 U ,nor I, to understand. I never met D\u2019Angelo but I love him, respect him, admire his gift. This loss HURTS!! Love to my family that are family to him. I\u2019m so sorry. R.I.P.
