Legendary neo-soul artist D\u2019Angelo has died following a private battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 51.<\/p>\n
Known for hits like \u201cBrown Sugar,\u201d \u201cLady,\u201d and \u201cCruisin\u2019,\u201d D\u2019Angelo died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, Variety confirmed<\/a>, citing members of his family.<\/p>\n \u201cThe shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life\u2026After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D\u2019Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D\u2019Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today,” the singer\u2019s family wrote in a statement sent to Variety.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family, but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n D\u2019Angelo was born Feb. 11, 1974 in Richmond, Virginia<\/a>. He released three studio albums throughout his career: \u201cBrown Sugar\u201d (1995), \u201cVoodoo\u201d (2000), and \u201cBlack Messiah\u201d (2014). D\u2019Angelo won four Grammy Awards<\/a> out of 14 career nominations. He most recently won best R&B album for \u201cBlack Messiah\u201d and best R&B song for \u201cReally Love\u201d in 2016.<\/p>\n The R&B icon, who was supposed to perform his first full live show in nine years<\/a> at Roots Picnic<\/a> in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania earlier this year, had to pull out<\/a> because of health issues.<\/p>\n \u201cDue to an unforeseen medical delay regarding surgery (I) had earlier this year, (I\u2019ve) been advised by my team of specialists that the performance this weekend could further complicate matters,\u201d D\u2019Angelo wrote in an Instagram post<\/a> on May 23.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is nearly impossible to express how disappointed [I am] not to be able to play with my Brothers \u2018The Roots.\u2019 And even more disappointed to not see all of you,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n D\u2019Angelo ended the post by thanking fans for their support, adding that he is \u201cin the lab\u201d and \u201ccan\u2019t wait to serve up what\u2019s in the pot.\u201d<\/p>\n Roots Picnic, which shared the Instagram post, wrote that \u201cwe\u2019re sending love and keeping him in our thoughts as he continues to heal!\u201d<\/p>\n D\u2019Angelo\u2019s family told Variety they \u201care eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind.\u201d<\/p>\n The family asks that their privacy be respected \u201cduring this difficult time,\u201d but invites fans to join \u201cin mourning his passing while also celebrating the gift of song that he has left for the world.\u201d<\/p>\n Read the original article on MassLive<\/a>.
