Mike Jirschele, a familiar figure in the Royals\u2019 organization for more than three decades, announced his retirement Friday after 48 years in professional baseball.<\/p>\n
Jirschele, 66, spent 34 years with Kansas City as a manager and coach, including six seasons as the Royals\u2019 third-base coach from 2014-19. He most recently managed Triple-A Omaha, where his 1,214 victories make him the winningest manager in franchise history.<\/p>\n
A former infielder drafted by Texas in 1977, Jirschele transitioned to coaching in 1989 and went on to hold several positions in the Royals\u2019 Minor League system. He joined Ned Yost\u2019s big-league staff in 2014, playing key roles in Kansas City\u2019s 2014 pennant run and 2015 World Series title.<\/p>\n
