That’s what they always say, right? Don’t read the comments on a story or a social-media post if you’ve got a thin skin, because they can get brutal. (Believe me, I know.)<\/p>\n
But in this case<\/a>, please read the comments. It’s a Facebook post from Sunday, Oct. 12, from the account of America’s Last Line of Defense, saying “Turning Point USA’s Super Bowl Halftime Show sells out Atlanta Braves Stadium In Three Hours After Announcing Kid Rock: ‘Don’t be surprised if we double Bad Bunny’s ratings.'” The post includes the caption, “Erika Kirk says they may add a second stadium and a Jumbotron for the West Coast.”<\/p>\n That would be big news. If it were true.<\/p>\n Which it is not.<\/p>\n Turing Point USA has announced that it will have an alternate Super Bowl halftime show to combat Bad Bunny’s official halftime show. You can even go to the organization’s website and vote for the type of performers you’d like to hear, which include classic rock, pop, worship, hip hop, country and, of course, the ever-popular “anything in English.”<\/p>\n Yeesh.<\/p>\n The NFL’s announcement of the enormously popular Bad Bunny, a critic of Donald Trump and ICE who performs in Spanish, has enraged MAGA, including Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and, to a limited extent (for him), Trump himself.<\/p>\n Which is why the comments on the Facebook post are so funny.<\/p>\n Despite the label that says, “Nothing on this page is real” (America’s Last Line of Defense posts satirical, trolling content), MAGA commenters went nuts. Which is to be expected; nuts is the default position for political disagreement these days.<\/p>\n To be fair, some of the comments are also satirical. (I hope. If not, we’ve got bigger troubles than we even imagined.) But the post is filled with comments from people trashing Bad Bunny, praising the idea of more “American” performers \u2014 Puerto Rico is part of the United States, but don’t let facts get in the way of a good rant \u2014 and promising to boycott the game, which is always the most-watched broadcast on TV every year. Every year. By a freaking mile. The NFL is a ratings juggernaut. Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show during the 2025 game, between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, averaged 133.5 million viewers.<\/p>\n There are other posts out there, including one that is more obviously satirical<\/a> \u2014 again, one hopes, though some of the dumber comments are clearly in earnest \u2014 that announces a lineup for the alternate halftime show, which includes Kid Rock (of course), Ted Nugent (of course, of course) and Lee Greenwood (of course, of course, of course). Plus, this: “Featuring a guest appearance from Measles.”<\/p>\n Are we really this dumb?<\/p>\n Don’t answer that. Because I’m afraid I know the answer. The political divide has become so wide and entrenched that everything is fodder for dimwitted outrage. Don’t disagree, DISAGREE OUT LOUD, STUPID.<\/p>\n Or just fake it.<\/p>\n “I didn’t even know who Bad Bunny was, but it sounds like a terrible decision in my view, from what I’m hearing,” Johnson, the Speaker of the House, said of Bad Bunny’s selection. Sure thing, man, operate from a position of ignorance. It’s all the rage. Johnson went on to say that “a lot of young, impressionable children” watch the game \u2014 so? \u2014 and “in my view you’d have Lee Greenwood or role models doing that, not somebody like this.”<\/p>\n What is it with these guys and Lee Greenwood and that godawful song, “God Bless the USA?” It was released as a single in 1984! And there he was at Charlie Kirk’s funeral, singing it to introduce Trump \u2014 again, this was a funeral<\/a>. It’s miserable treacle, and was even 41 years ago. But it’s all part of the make-things-like-they-used-to-be agenda, I suppose.<\/p>\n Trump also claimed in an interview that he didn’t know who Bad Bunny is, which didn’t stop him from calling the choice “absolutely terrible.”<\/p>\n In fairness, this whole thing was apparently too dumb for even Trump, who quickly pivoted to what really matters to Americans: the new NFL kickoff rule.<\/p>\n On a more serious front, Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security, has said that ICE will be “all over” the 2026 Super Bowl. Because of course, the Super Bowl, with its exorbitant ticket prices, is such a hotbed for illegal immigration. In truth, maybe Noem means she will target workers? Who knows. But she did say this about the NFL’s selection of Bad Bunny: “They suck and we’ll win and God will bless us.”<\/p>\n A lot of us and them in there. I guess when you lay it all out there, the answer becomes pretty clear. We really are this dumb.
