\n\tTributes are pouring in for R&B icon D\u2019Angelo after his family announced the singer\u2019s death<\/a> on Tuesday, with stars including Tyler, The Creator<\/a>, Doja Cat<\/a>, Nile Rogers, Flea and Missy Elliot all honoring the late legend.<\/p>\n \n\tD\u2019Angelo, known as one of the most influential artists in R&B as a pioneering force on the neo soul movement of the \u201990s, died Tuesday after a battle with cancer. \u201cWe are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family,\u00a0but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music\u00a0he leaves behind,\u201d D\u2019Angelo\u2019s family said in a statement Tuesday. <\/p>\n \n\tTyler, the Creator posted an extensive statement on Instagram, recalling buying Voodoo <\/em>for his ninth birthday as a child, saying that D\u2019Angelo\u2019s Brown Sugar <\/em>had already become a staple at his home. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI couldn\u2019t understand how someone could write something so simple but personal but broad but genius,\u201d Tyler wrote. \u201cThat\u2019s how special he was. A savant. A true alien. I am so lucky to have gotten my copy of VOODOO when I did. We are so lucky to have been alive to enjoy his art. My musical DNA was helped shaped by this man. Forever grateful. What a rare and beautiful voice and an inimitable approach to songwriting. What a musician!!! He changed the course of popular music. I drop to my knees and pray.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tMissy Elliot encouraged fans to send prayers to D\u2019Angelo\u2019s son, who also lost his mother, Angie Stone, earlier this year. <\/p>\n \n\tNile Rodgers posted a tribute on Instagram Tuesday, recalling the early days when record executive Gary Harris \u2014 who signed D\u2019Angelo \u2014 had brought him over to Rodgers\u2019 apartment in New York to show him music.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cHe was trying to figure out what to do with the music he\u2019d brought with him,\u201d Rogers wrote. \u201cI listened to every cut \u2026 not just out of respect but because it was smoking. At the end of the encounter he asked me, \u2018What should I do with it?\u2019 I remember this as if it were yesterday. I said, \u201cput it out. It\u2019s perfect!\u2019 Being the\u00a0artist he is, I guess he had to explore some ways to make it better. About a year later I heard one of those songs on the radio.
