Kimberly Akimbo,<\/a> the winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.<\/p>\nOne of the original Broadway cast members is a Montgomery County native who is thrilled to bring the show to his hometown.<\/p>\n
“Philly has fully shaped me into who I am today,” says Kim Hogan. “I’m such a Philly kid at heart.”<\/p>\n
Hogan grew up in Roslyn, and music was always running through his veins.<\/p>\n
“Music got in there pretty early,” he says. “Singing got in there pretty early. Honestly, I really do have Philly to thank for my musical roots.”<\/p>\n
Hogan is one-third of the viral a cappella vocal trio T.3.<\/p>\n
He’s also a star on Broadway and one of the original cast members of the smash hit “Kimberly Akimbo.”<\/p>\n
Next week, he’s bringing the show home for its Philadelphia premiere at the Academy of Music.<\/p>\n
“As a kid coming up and seeing shows at the Academy, you always dream that you would get to do something like this,” he says.<\/p>\n
“Kimberly Akimbo” is a coming-of-age story about growing up and growing old.<\/p>\n
“It’s a very bittersweet show,” says Hogan. “There’s a lot of comedy, but there’s a lot of heart and a little bit of tragedy in there too. You get the best of both worlds. I cannot wait to stand on that stage at the Academy. It’s just going to be a magical moment, for sure.”<\/p>\n
Kimberly Akimbo is on stage from October 21 through November 2 at the Academy of Music.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
