Singer D\u2019Angelo<\/a> died <\/a>Tuesday (Oct. 14) after a private battle with cancer, and artists have started to share their condolences as the news spreads.<\/p>\n The singer\u2019s family confirmed his passing in a statement with Billboard: \u201cThe shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life. After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D\u2019Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D\u2019Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today, Oct. 14, 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n D\u2019Angelo\u2019s fellow artists were devastated after the news broke, and took to X to offer their condolences and remember the musician. Among those heartbroken fans was DJ Premier, who was one of the first people to comment on his passing.<\/p>\n \u201cSuch a sad loss to the passing of D\u2019angelo,\u201d Premier wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cWe have so many great times. Gonna miss you so much. Sleep Peacefully D\u2019. Love you KING.\u201d<\/p>\n Power, Michael D\u2019Angelo Archer.\u201d<\/p>\n Doja Cat offered up powerful words on X<\/a>: \u201cRest in peace D\u2019angelo. Na,\u201d he wrote on X.<\/p>\n Tyler, The Creator paid tribute to D\u2019Angelo in a lengthy Instagram post<\/a>, sharing how the late artist\u2019s music influenced him, explaining, \u201cMy musical dna was helped shaped by this man.\u201d Then, Bryan Michael Cox shared another photo of the R&B sensation on Instagram, writing<\/a>, \u201cWe lost a GIANT today. The last time I shed tears for an artist when they transitioned was Prince\u2026I shed some today. Rest in Eternal Power, Michael D\u2019Angelo Archer.\u201d<\/p>\n Born Michael Eugene Archer in Richmond, Va., D\u2019Angelo transformed modern soul music with his debut album Brown Sugar (1995), which hit the Billboard 200<\/a> and served as one of the pioneering projects of the 1990s neo-soul movement. His follow-up, Voodoo (2000), debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and his slick single \u201cUntitled (How Does It Feel)\u201d earned D\u2019Angelo a Grammy Award for best male R&B vocal performance. The album itself won best R&B album at the 2001 Grammys and has since been hailed as one of that era\u2019s greatest records.
