Does Rihanna<\/a> not know how to pronounce her own name? For years, much of the world has been going with \u201cRih-AH-na,\u201d which, as RihRih has told us, is not right. It\u2019s actually pronounced \u201cRih-ANN-na,\u201d<\/a> though judging from her appearance in the legendary 2009 Saturday Night Live \u201cShy Ronnie\u201d sketch, maybe we were right all along?<\/p>\n In the bit, Rihanna and Ronnie (Andy Samberg) are dropping knowledge to a group of grade schoolers with the singer crooning in her power range as timid Ronnie can barely rise above a whisper to her utter consternation. At the top, Rihanna introduces herself using what we\u2019ve learned is the incorrect pronunciation of her name, so what gives?<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n On the new episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast \u2014\u00a0on which the Samberg-led trio and late night host break down some of their classic digital shorts and other comedy projects \u2014 Naked Gun director Schaffer finally untangled the \u201cShy Ronnie\u201d moniker muddle. \u201cAndy went, \u2018Ree-awn-uh and Shy Ronnie,’\u201d Schaffer explained of Samberg\u2019s slip-up when recording the intro to the temp track that was meant to guide Rihanna\u2019s performance. \u201cAnd then she was so great at recording exactly Andy\u2019s inflections to get the jokes perfect that she did that [too].\u201d<\/p>\n In other words, blame Samberg and praise Rihanna for being a consummate professional.<\/p>\n Schaffer said on the pod that when he later heard Rihanna introduce herself using the right pronunciation he was even more confused. \u201cI heard her say her name to somebody else out loud, and I went, \u2018Why did you say \u201cRee-ANN-uh\u201d? Wait, is your name Ree-ann-uh?’\u201d Schaffer said, noting that her actual name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty.<\/p>\n When Schaffer asked what the singer\u2019s mom calls her, he said Rihanna laughed, \u201c\u2018Ree-ANN-ah,\u2019 and I\u2019m like, \u2018Aw.’\u201d<\/p>\n Samberg took the time to once again note that the trio are \u201chuge Rihanna fans,\u201d making sure it was clear that he now knows how to properly say her name. \u201cShe told us it\u2019s \u2018Rih-ANN-ah,\u2019\u00a0and we were like, \u2018Why don\u2019t you correct people?’\u201d Samberg recalled asking. \u201c[And] she\u2019s like, \u2018I don\u2019t care.’\u201d They went on to gush about the singer\u2019s flawless technique and joke about how her team basically kicked them out of their office and \u201cput silks over all the lamps and dimmed all the lights and lit candles\u201d to create a chilled-out atmosphere for the vocal recording session.<\/p>\n Her engineer then hopped on one of their computers and got to work as the trio asked if they needed to be talked through the bit. \u201cShe\u2019s like, \u2018I got it,’\u201d Samberg said. \u201cSo we were sitting outside on the couch like little kids.
