Hey, if you\u2019re a National Guard soldier stationed in Chicago and ethically disagree with it, just hit up the city\u2019s delicious Italian beef, hot dog and pizza stands as often as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Over the weekend, <\/span>Task & Purpose<\/span><\/a> \u2014 a news website focused on the U.S. military community \u2014 reported that the Texas Military Department replaced \u201ca small group\u201d of National Guard members sent to Illinois this past week for not meeting Secretary of Defense <\/span>Pete Hegseth<\/span><\/a>\u2019s new fitness standards. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Late last month, Hegseth and Trump <\/span>gathered<\/span><\/a> every top U.S. general and admiral from around the world in Virginia to essentially declare that they didn\u2019t want <\/span>any fat people in the military anymore<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Task & Purpose noted that the decision seems to have been made after a <\/span>Reddit post riddled with fatphobic jokes<\/span><\/a> brutally mocked a handful of Texas soldiers deployed to Chicago who were featured in a photo shot by the Associated Press. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Hegseth was so thrilled about the removal of these soldiers that he tweeted Take & Force\u2019s article Monday, along with a pretty braggy caption:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cStandards are back at The @DeptofWar,\u201d he wrote, referring to his own department that President Donald Trump wants to rename the Department of War <\/span>for some asinine fear-mongering reasons<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n And although some X users<\/span> had some<\/span><\/a> pretty<\/span><\/a> solid<\/span><\/a> retorts<\/span><\/a> to Hegseth\u2019s post, California Gov. <\/span>Gavin Newsom<\/span><\/a>\u2019s office may have had the best. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Retweeting Hegseth\u2019s post, Newsom included a video montage that features the defense secretary proving that he might not meet his own physical fitness standards. It begins with Hegseth failing to do a complete pull-up, then shows him chucking an axe way \u2014 way \u2014 over its intended target. Then he kicks a skateboard right into his nuts.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n This wasn\u2019t the first time Newsom\u2019s office pointed out how hypocritical Hegseth and Trump sounded when they belittled military members for not physically resembling Ninja Turtles. <\/span>Shortly after the September bitchfest about military fitness, Newsom\u2019s office re-tweeted a video of Hegseth saying the following to military leaders:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cFrankly, it\u2019s tiring to look out at combat formations \u2014 or really, any formation \u2014 and see fat troops,\u201d Hegseth griped. \u201cLikewise, it\u2019s completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon, and leading commands around the country and the world.
