Sam Raimi has spent much of the 21st century playing with some of the biggest I.P. that Hollywood has to offer. His trilogy of \u201cSpider-Man\u201d films helped establish the superhero movie as we know it (and are still considered some of the best efforts that the genre has ever seen), \u201cOz the Great and Powerful\u201d saw him put his own stamp on arguably the most iconic movie in Hollywood history, and \u201cDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness\u201d<\/a> saw him return to the Marvel sandbox.<\/p>\n But to many horror fans, his sole original directorial outing of the 2000s remains his best work of the century: \u201cDrag Me to Hell.\u201d Anyone who prefers their Raimi films bloody, darkly funny, and reminiscent of his \u201980s and \u201990s output has likely been longing for another film in that vein for years \u2014 and now they might be getting their wish with \u201cSend Help.\u201d<\/p>\n More from IndieWire<\/strong><\/p>\n Raimi\u2019s new film, which hits theaters in January and released its first trailer today, is a psychological thriller set on a deserted island in which two co-workers (Rachel McAdams and Dylan O\u2019Brien) are stranded together after a plane crash. They\u2019ll be forced to work through their past grievances if they want any chance of surviving.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always loved stories where interesting, dynamic characters are pushed to extremes,\u201d Raimi said in a press release.\u00a0 \u201cIn our story, the power shifts create an escalating situation that\u2019s brimming with unexpected turns and suspense.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSend Help\u201d is written by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift, with frequent Raimi collaborator Danny Elfman composing the original score. Raimi produces alongside Zainab Azizi and JJ Hook.<\/p>\n While a new film directed by Raimi has become a depressingly rare occasion, the filmmaker maintains a packed slate of producing projects. In addition to recent films like \u201cLocked\u201d<\/a> and \u201cDon\u2019t Move,\u201d<\/a> he continues to oversee a steady flow of new \u201cEvil Dead\u201d movies (next up: \u201cEvil Dead Burn\u201d in 2026) and has teased a desire to return to the \u201cSpider-Man\u201d franchise<\/a> with Tobey Maguire.<\/p>\n A 20th Century Studios release, \u201cSend Help\u201d opens in theaters on Friday, January 30.
