{"id":2092402,"date":"2025-10-15T07:54:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T07:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2092402"},"modified":"2025-10-15T07:54:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T07:54:09","slug":"royal-mail-fined-millions-for-failing-to-meet-delivery-targets-again-money-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/royal-mail-fined-millions-for-failing-to-meet-delivery-targets-again-money-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Royal Mail fined millions for failing to meet delivery targets again | Money News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-component-name=\"ui-article-body\" data-testid=\"article-body\" data-highlight-intro=\"true\">\n<p>Royal Mail has been fined \u00a321m for failing to meet delivery targets for the third year in a row and warned fines are likely to continue unless there&#8217;s an improvement. <\/p>\n<p>As well as failing to meet current delivery times for both first and second class mail, Royal Mail did not meet revised down targets agreed with Ofcom.<\/p>\n<p>The delivery network delivered 77% of first class mail and 92.5% of second class mail on time from April 2024 to March this year, &#8220;well short&#8221; of its 93% and 98.5% targets, the communications regulator said.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also below the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/ofcom-proposes-royal-mail-scale-back-second-class-letter-deliveries-13299364\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>reduced goals<\/strong><\/a> which were set out for the delivery company at the start of the year &#8211; bringing down the percentage of first class post delivered the next day from 93% to 90%, and second class mail delivered within three days from 98.5% to 95%.<\/p>\n<p>The latest <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/royal-mail-fined-10-5m-after-missing-delivery-targets-13272548\" target=\"_blank\">fine is double that levied last year<\/a><\/strong>, \u00a310.5m, and nearly quadruple the \u00a35.6m fine in 2023 because of the repeat offending.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the third-largest fine ever levied by Ofcom and would have been higher, \u00a330m, but for Royal Mail&#8217;s admission of wrongdoing and agreement to settle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Millions not getting what they pay for<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ian Strawhorne, director of enforcement at Ofcom, said: &#8220;Millions of important letters are arriving late, and people aren&#8217;t getting what they pay for when they buy a stamp.<\/p>\n<p>Royal Mail has, without justification, failed to provide an acceptable level of service and breached its obligations, Ofcom added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It took insufficient and ineffective steps to try and prevent this failure, which is likely to have impacted millions of customers who did not get the service they paid for.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>People have also been experiencing times when letters have taken weeks to arrive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What next?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Royal Mail has been ordered by Ofcom to urgently and publicly set out and implement a &#8220;credible plan&#8221; on how it&#8217;s going to change.<\/p>\n<p>It said it expects to see &#8220;meaningful progress soon&#8221;, rather than &#8220;more empty promises&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Improvements Ofcom had pressed for have not materialised, it said and Royal Mail has been called on to make &#8220;actual significant improvements&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If this doesn&#8217;t happen, fines are likely to continue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The regulator said the &#8220;persistent failures&#8221; are unacceptable, and customers expect and deserve better.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Royal Mail must rebuild consumers&#8217; confidence as a matter of urgency,&#8221; it added.<\/p>\n<p>     <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/download-app\" target=\"blank\" data-tracking-label=\"ui-app-promo-download-link\" class=\"ui-app-promo sdc-article-widget\" data-type=\"\" data-component-name=\"ui-app-promo\" data-testid=\"app-promo\"><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The company has also been set a new enforceable target for 99% of mail to be delivered no more than two days late.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How have Royal Mail responded?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Royal Mail spokesperson said: &#8220;We acknowledge the decision made by Ofcom today and we will continue to work hard to deliver further sustained improvements to our quality of service.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em> \u2018 The preceding article may include information circulated by third parties \u2019 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> \u2018 Some details of this article were extracted from the following source news.sky.com \u2019 <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Royal Mail has been fined \u00a321m for failing to meet delivery targets for the third year in a row and warned fines are likely to continue unless there&#8217;s an improvement.
