Ben Stiller<\/strong> has opened up about cutting his daughter<\/strong>, Ella, out from his film, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty<\/strong>, in a new documentary, Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost<\/strong>. Ella was cast as Mitty\u2019s younger sister before being cut from the film.<\/p>\n In Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost, Ben Stiller told Ella he cut her from Secret Life of Walter Mitty. He admitted to her that it was \u201cthe worst decision\u201d he made in his life.<\/p>\n However, Ella admitted that although her dream of debuting in a feature film didn\u2019t happen due to Stiller\u2019s decision, she was \u201creally scared\u201d during the scene. She added that her scene \u201cdidn\u2019t really make sense in the movie.\u201d Stiller reasoned his perfectionism was behind the cut (via PEOPLE<\/a>).<\/p>\n The Night at the Museum star also interacted with his son Quinlin. He wanted to know if the latter shared Ella\u2019s sentiments. Quinlin stressed that the former\u2019s work ethic could sometimes push the family away. \u201cI think there\u2019s things, you know, after a tough day or something was going wrong, you can get very much in your own head,\u201d the 20-year-old stated. \u201cAnd I think, once you kind of go into that place\u2026[it\u2019s] hard to get you out of it.\u201d He added that Stiller\u2019s professional mindset would ruin the \u201cfun\u201d of \u201cbeing on vacation.\u201d<\/p>\n In addition, Quinlin pointed out how the Zoolander star tried to balance his multiple roles of directing, acting, producing, writing, and fathering. He emphasized that Stiller placed more importance on his professional life.<\/p>\n In a recent exclusive interview with PEOPLE<\/a>, Stiller admitted that the documentary shone a light on his shortcomings as a parent. \u201cThey [Ella and Quin] were very clear with me about what I got wrong,\u201d Stiller shared.<\/p>\n He further expressed his appreciation, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s one of those things where you think you know, \u2018Oh, I know what I\u2019m putting out there to them.\u2019 But from their perspective, it was totally different.\u201d<\/p>\n He also explained that the complicated dynamic he shared with his children mirrored the one he shared with his own parents, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. \u201cBut as the parent, I really couldn\u2019t see that,\u201d he added.
