Rachel Shenton<\/a>\u2018s Helen Alderson will be settling into family life on the farm in the highly anticipated sixth season<\/a> of All Creatures Great and Small<\/em><\/a>, which is set to premiere on PBS on Sunday, January 11, 2026.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Hello!<\/em><\/a> and other press ahead of the sixth season\u2019s U.K. premiere, Shenton confirmed the popular period drama will be skipping ahead a few years<\/a>, to May 1945, after the Second World War comes to an end; Season 5 was set during spring 1941.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve jumped forward in time, and when we pick up this year, Helen and the children are at Heston Grange, helping out [her father] Richard Alderson (Tony Pitts<\/a>) and [her sister] Jenny (Imogen Clawson<\/a>),\u201d Shenton said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve got a bit more space, rather than being cramped in a bedsit,\u201d she added. \u201cShe\u2019s happy, she\u2019s content, she\u2019s incredibly present and practical \u2013 and she gets on with it. So I think there\u2019s nothing that she\u2019s lacking from her life, which is nice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Helen married veterinary surgeon James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph<\/a>) in the third season, and they went on to welcome two children, a son named Jimmy and a daughter named Rosie. With the Season 6 time skip, Jimmy and Rosie will be a little older when viewers see them next.<\/p>\n

Shenton told the press she\u2019s been having a great time filming with her young co-stars. \u201cIn real life, [child actor Thomas Riches] is seven and playing four \u2013 and he likes to tell you that he\u2019s seven and playing four!\u201d the Academy Award winner shared.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s super confident and keeps me on my toes. If I do a take that\u2019s slightly different each time, he\u2019ll certainly tell me about that, so it keeps me on my toes,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

While Helen and James have settled into family life in the upcoming season, Shenton promised fans that the lighthearted moments that made their relationship such a hit with audiences will still be present.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do see pockets of that,\u201d she shared. \u201cTheir relationship matures every season, which is gorgeous, but now they\u2019re a family of four, so there\u2019s a lot of like navigating life that comes with this season \u2013 \u2018you take this child, I\u2019ll take that one, let\u2019s meet in the middle.\u2019 And in that, there\u2019s a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

She concluded, \u201cIt\u2019s less about sneaking off together and more about making this unit work.\u201d<\/p>\n
