Following the death of iconic Neo Soul and R&B singer D\u2019Angelo<\/a> on Oct. 14, his son, Michael Archer Jr. has issued a statement. <\/p>\n His father\u2019s death comes seven months after the death of his mother, fellow Neo Soul singer Angie Stone. <\/p>\n D\u2019Angelo was just 51. <\/p>\n \u201cI am grateful for your thoughts and prayers during these very difficult times, as it has been a very rough and sad year for me,\u201d Archer Jr. told People<\/a>. \u201cI ask that you please continue to keep me in your thoughts as it will not be easy, but one thing that both my parents taught me was to be strong, and I intend to do just that.\u201d <\/p>\n The family of the \u201990s R&B legend confirmed that D\u2019Angelo died from a long and private battle with pancreatic cancer. <\/p>\n \u201cThe shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life,\u201d read the statement, which was shared with Billboard<\/a>. \u201cAfter a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D\u2019Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D\u2019Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today, Oct. 14, 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n Stone, the founding member of the trio The Sequence, died at the age of 63 in a car crash on March 1 after her last performance at Mardi Gras Association\u2019s Grand Marshal\u2019s Ball in Mobile, Alabama. <\/p>\n \u201cUnfortunately, at around 4 a.m. while heading back to Atlanta from Alabama, the Sprinter flipped over and was subsequently hit by a big rig. Thankfully, all survived except for Angie,\u201d Walter Millsap, president of Conjuction Entertainment, said in a statement obtained by Billboard<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n Archer Jr., who performs under the stage name Swayvo Train, turned to Instagram<\/a> to share a clip of the \u201cHeart and Neo-Soul (Ginuwine and D\u2019Angelo)\u201d episode of MTV\u2019s Family Legacy, where Archer Jr. and Stone watched one of D\u2019Angelo\u2019s old interviews, where he opened up about spending the years between his 1995 album \u201cBrown Sugar\u201d and his 2000 album \u201cVoodoo\u201d with his family.<\/p>\n \u201cI had a son. After his birth, I started writing for the album. And this album is dedicated to my son,\u201d The Grammy winner shared in the interview. \u201cHe inspired me not just to write songs but to be a better man and to grow up. And that\u2019s what the album is about.
