Sugar<\/a> have officially reunited after launching new social media accounts last week. The Bob Mould<\/a>-fronted alternative rock band is back with their first new song in 30 years, \u201cHouse of Dead Memories,\u201d and has also announced a handful of May 2026 tour dates in New York City and London. Stream the comeback single below.<\/p>\n \u201cHouse of Dead Memories\u201d was originally written for Sugar\u2019s aborted 20th anniversary reunion more than a decade ago and kept stashed until the time was right. \u201cIt\u2019s a failed-relationship song, nothing too unique for me,\u201d Mould told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> about the track. \u201cBut the riff is definitely a Sugar-type riff, and it was fun to get the three of us on the floor together to record for the first time in ages.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t want to get out too far in front of the skis, as they say,\u201d Mould added about Sugar\u2019s future plans beyond \u201cHouse of Dead Memories\u201d and their two-night stands in New York (May 2nd and 3rd) and London (May 23rd and 24th). \u201cPeople\u2019s reactions will probably guide a lot of the possibilities in front of us, whether it\u2019s more songs or more shows. All three of us are all in for whatever feels right. Fans can\u00a0gain early access by signing up for\u00a0the mailing list<\/a> to receive a code for the pre-sale, which begins on Wednesday, October 22nd<\/span>\u00a0at 10:00 a.m. local time.<\/p>\n Led by former H\u00fcsker D\u00fc frontman Mould on vocals and guitar, Sugar also features bassist David Barbe (ex-Mercyland) and Malcolm Travis (ex-Human Sexual Response) on drums. Although originally active for only a few years from 1992 to 1995, the group made a lasting impact with two albums, 1992\u2019s Copper Blue<\/em> and 1994\u2019s File Under: Easy Listening<\/em>, as well as their 1993 Beaster<\/em> EP and 1995 B-sides compilation, Besides<\/em>.<\/p>\n Their final run\u00a0as a band came with a series of shows in Japan in early 1995, after which Mould embarked on a successful solo career, Travis went on to play in other bands, and Barbe moved into academia, where he teaches music business at the University of Georgia. They first attempted a reunion 14 years ago, but the vibes didn\u2019t feel right.<\/p>\n \u201cI was a little resistant to the idea of going out on a 20-year thing,\u201d Mould explained to Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cI know a lot of people were doing it. So we got together and took a shot at it, and I think we all walked away thinking, \u2018Eh, not right now.\u2019 At least for me, it was like, \u2018I think I\u2019m going to do what I\u2019m doing.’\u201d<\/p>\n Now, the timing feels right, and it appears fan interest is there: the band\u2019s new website<\/a> threw a few \u201c503 service unavailable\u201d errors during the writing of this article.<\/p>\n
