R&B and soul singer D\u2019Angelo has passed away. He was 51 years old.<\/p>\n
According to Baller Alert<\/a>, who first reported on the story, the neo-soul singer died following a private battle with pancreatic cancer on Tuesday morning in New York City.<\/p>\n His family confirmed his death in a statement obtained by Variety<\/a>: \u201cThe shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life. After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D\u2019Angelo Archer,\u00a0known to his fans around the world as D\u2019Angelo, has been called home, departing this life\u00a0today, October 14th, 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n He first received success in the music business for co-producing the single \u201cU Will Know\u201d for the R&B supergroup Black Men United, which was made up of Brian McKnight,\u00a0Usher,\u00a0R. Kelly,\u00a0Boyz II Men,\u00a0Raphael Saadiq and\u00a0Gerald Levert.<\/p>\n He immediately saw solo success after he released his debut album \u201cBrown Sugar\u201d in 1995, which included the hit single \u201cBrown Sugar,\u201d \u201cLady,\u201d \u201cCruisin’\u201d and \u201cMe and Those Dreamin\u2019 Eyes of Mine.\u201d The album went platinum within a year of its release.<\/p>\n D\u2019Angelo saw further success with his 2000 album \u201cVoodoo,\u201d which debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200. His single \u201cUntitled (How Does It Feel)\u201d won him the Grammy for Best Male R&B Performance. It was accompanied by a provocative music video, which showcased the singer naked. The album itself won the award for Best R&B Album.<\/p>\n In 2014, he released the album \u201cBlack Messiah,\u201d after taking a hiatus from music. The album won the Grammy for Best R&B Album. His single \u201cReally Love\u201d from the project also won the Grammy for Best R&B Song.<\/p>\n He\u2019s credited for being a pioneer of the neo-soul movement, which included Maxwell, Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill.<\/p>\n He was reportedly working on an album with Raphael Saadiq, but it will now be released posthumously.<\/p>\n Hollywood paid tribute to the singer\u2019s life on social media.<\/p>\n \u201cRest in peace D\u2019Angelo,\u201d wrote singer Doja Cat on X<\/a>. \u201cMy thoughts, love and prayers go out to his family and friends.
