Well, maybe not a plethora, but according to Steve Martin<\/strong>, there were a few names being tossed around during casting besides his own, Martin Short<\/strong>, and Chevy Chase<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In a resurfaced interview from The Howard Stern Show, the Father of the Bride actor reflected on another one of his legendary roles \u2014 as one of the amigos in the cult classic film, Three Amigos.<\/p>\n In the clip, Stern asks Martin, \u201cI don\u2019t know if this is true … that was made for (John) Belushi<\/strong> and (Dan) Aykroyd<\/strong> to be in with you?\u201d<\/p>\n Martin interjects and sets the record straight. \u201cWell, there were names being tossed around … I don\u2019t remember all the permutations of cast, but we always wanted Chevy, and we wanted John Candy<\/strong>. That\u2019s what it was,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd I remember thinking, \u2018Too bad Belushi died,\u2019 because he would be perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n The Saturday Night Live alumni connections make total sense \u2014 Three Amigos was, after all, co-written<\/a> by Martin, Lorne Michaels<\/strong>, and Randy Newman<\/strong>, with the kind of quirky humor that defined that era of comedy.
