\u201cGeneral Hospital\u201d star Kirsten Storms is preparing to undergo brain surgery.<\/p>\n
Storms, 41, who has played Maxie Jones on the soap opera since 2005, opened up about her recent medical crisis on Tuesday, Oct. 14.<\/p>\n
In a lengthy Instagram statement<\/a>, Storms revealed that doctors found \u201can aneurysm on the right side of [her] brain\u201d during a January scan. <\/p>\n \u201cI had a procedure done that weekend \u2026 [but] because of the *slightly* complex situation with the aneurysm (nothing bad, just not typical) it wasn\u2019t coiled that weekend,\u201d she wrote. <\/p>\n Storms is now preparing to undergo a coiling, a minimally invasive procedure used to treat brain aneurysms, in the next couple of weeks. A brain aneurysm is a bugle in a blood vessel of the brain. If left untreated, aneurysms can rupture and become life-threatening.<\/p>\n \u201cSince I knew what an aneurysm was, the scan in January majorly freaked me out,\u201d Storms captioned her Instagram statement. \u201cA few days after I was discharged from the hospital, someone created a blog post that said I was in the hospital that weekend because I tried to \u2018unalive\u2019 myself. I couldn\u2019t understand why a person would make up something that terrible, when they had no idea why I was really there. There are a few really bad apples out there.\u201d<\/p>\n Storms previously had a cyst removed from her brain in 2021. Brain cysts? I believe that is possible too \u2026 and since the January scan showed a new, but *very small,* \u201csquatter\u201d (aka cyst) on my brain stem \u2014 it was clear I needed to change some things in my life asap,\u201d the actress wrote.<\/p>\n Back in July, Storms announced that she\u2019d be taking a temporary hiatus from \u201cGeneral Hospital.\u201d<\/a> She cited her move to Nashville with her 11-year-old daughter, Harper, as the reason for the break. <\/p>\n \u201cFor my own personal reasons, no longer living in Los Angeles was very important to me,\u201d Storms wrote on Tuesday. \u201cThe biggest reason for the move was Harper, but a lot of it was for my physical and mental health. And my overall happiness.\u201d<\/p>\n Storms previously told fans she\u2019d be back on \u201cGeneral Hospital\u201d in November or December, but her return date has not yet been confirmed. <\/p>\n \u201cGeneral Hospital\u201d airs on ABC weekdays at 3 p.m. ET.
