Over its almost 50 seasons, Survivor<\/em><\/a> has seen many themed seasons<\/a>, including editions based on age-divides, but would the long-running CBS reality show ever go all-in on an all-seniors season?<\/p>\n The show\u2019s host and executive producer, Jeff Probst,<\/a> was asked that exact question on the latest episode of the On Fire<\/em><\/a> podcast, when a fan wanted to know if he\u2019s ever considered doing a Golden Survivor<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cYou know, I hear this idea from time to time,\u201d Probst replied, per Entertainment Weekly<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve certainly heard it more since The Bachelor<\/em><\/a> did it.\u201d<\/p>\n The ABC dating competition series launched its first edition of Golden Bachelor<\/em><\/a> in 2023, a spin-off of The Bachelor<\/em>, which featured seniors as contestants. It was followed by The Golden Bachelorette<\/em><\/a> in 2024, and now the second season of The Golden Bachelor<\/em> is airing.<\/a><\/p>\n However, seniors shouldn\u2019t get their hopes up with Survivor<\/em> following suit.<\/p>\n \u201cHere\u2019s the truth as I see it,\u201d Probst explained. \u201cBased on the number of people over, let\u2019s say 50, who apply and who we believe are interesting and compelling enough to be on the show and we believe can truly handle the intense physicality \u2014 I think if you just limited it to 50-and-over casting, it would be difficult to do two times per year. You\u2019re looking at 40 people. I just don\u2019t think it would work, personally.\u201d<\/p>\n The Emmy-winning host also said he would \u201cmiss the layers of complexity\u201d that come with casting people from different ages and backgrounds.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that\u2019s part of the fun,\u201d he stated. \u201cIn the same way that I would miss it if one gender wasn\u2019t on the show and we just did all women or all men. I think it\u2019s that clash and the collaboration, the unexpected partnerships and learning about each other, that\u2019s a big part of our format.\u201d<\/p>\n Survivor<\/em> has divided tribes by age three times before. The first was in Survivor: Panama<\/em> in 2006, which started with four tribes: young men, older men, young women, and older women. Then, in Survivor: Nicaragua<\/em> in 2010, the two tribes were split into contestants aged 40 and over and contestants aged 30 and younger. A similar division happened in 2016\u2019s Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen-X<\/em>, with the tribes split based on their generation.<\/p>\n In recent seasons, the cast has skewed heavily to contestants in their 30s. The oldest contestants on the currently airing Survivor 49<\/em> are Matt Williams at 52, followed by Annie Davis at 49, and Nate Moore at 47.<\/p>\n While an all-seniors season isn\u2019t on the horizon, Probst still encouraged older fans to apply. \u201cThis is my way of saying don\u2019t wait on\u00a0Golden Survivor<\/em>,\u201d he noted. \u201cApply now to be on\u00a0this\u00a0Survivor<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n
