Actor Ed Williams, who played lab scientist Ted Olson in the \u201cPolice Squad\u201d television series and \u201cNaked Gun\u201d films has died. He was 98. <\/p>\n
Williams\u2019 granddaughter Stephanie Williams told the Hollywood Reporter<\/a> that he died on Oct. 2 in Los Angeles. <\/p>\n In addition to playing the quirky Olson, Williams frequently played an assortment of priests and other ministers. He most notably married the young couple in the 1991 movie \u201cFather of the Bride,\u201d which starred Diane Keaton and Steve Martin. <\/p>\n Although he began his acting career doing plays and radio productions, he put it aside to become a teacher at the The Don Martin School of Radio and Television Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n In the 1980s, however, he returned to acting, landing the \u201cPolice Squad\u201d role.<\/p>\n \u201cI made up for lost time and got a fairly decent part to start coming back into acting,\u201d he said in a 2017 interview<\/a>. <\/p>\n He also starred in such films as \u201cRatboy,\u201d \u201cNickel & Dime,\u201d \u201cHigh Strung,\u201d and appeared on such television shows as \u201cCheers,\u201d \u201cMacGyver,\u201d \u201cMatlock,\u201d \u201cL.A.
