CALERA, Ala. (WBRC<\/a>) – Calera\u2019s downtown shopping and entertainment district has been steadily growing year after year.<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of people say \u2018I didn\u2019t know you existed\u2019 – now they do,\u201d said Deloris Starkey with Calera Main Street.<\/p>\n A florist, salon, real estate office, and playground have joined the list in the last year or so and now a new endeavor awaits this weekend. <\/p>\n \u201cThe big money people is coming to town for everyone to come and enjoy themselves,\u201d said Calera Mayor-elect Kenny Dale Cost. <\/p>\n A few yards from Main Street, land has been cleared and turned into an arena.<\/p>\n The city is hosting an inaugural rodeo this weekend, welcoming professional riders from across the country. <\/p>\n Details and tickets can be found by clicking or tapping here<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n Mayor-elect Cost hopes the event draws in 10,000 to 15,000 people.<\/p>\n \u201cI would love to see us have some good bands down here for a large event,\u201d Cost said. \u201cThis is a good test for it here.\u201d<\/p>\n This could mean new business for motels, restaurants, and shops.<\/p>\n \u201cThe taxes and the revenue, everything is going back to your community when you shop local,\u201d Starkey added. <\/p>\n Cost campaigned on using Calera\u2019s three interstate exits on I-65 to bring in that revenue. <\/p>\n He hopes events like the rodeo make that vision a reality, as he begins talking with new developers on what could come down the line.<\/p>\n \u201cDon\u2019t miss out on it developers,\u201d he said. \u201cYou better come on, cause we open for business!\u201d<\/p>\n Get news alerts in the Apple App Store<\/a> and Google Play Store<\/a> or subscribe to our email newsletter here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Copyright 2025 WBRC.
