{"id":2097070,"date":"2025-10-17T06:12:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T06:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2097070"},"modified":"2025-10-17T06:12:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T06:12:13","slug":"we-wanted-to-take-some-risks-the-last-dinner-party-enter-a-bold-new-era-talent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/we-wanted-to-take-some-risks-the-last-dinner-party-enter-a-bold-new-era-talent\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;We wanted to take some risks&#8217;: The Last Dinner Party enter a bold new era | Talent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/labels\/read\/island-emi-boss-louis-bloom-hails-the-last-dinner-party-s-sensational-debut-campaign\/091115\">The Last Dinner Party<\/a> have told <em>Music Week<\/em> they set out to take artistic risks on their second album, <span>From The Pyre<\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the LP just released (October 17), the group \u2013 lead singer\u00a0Abigail Morris, guitarist Lizzie Mayland, multi-instrumentalist Emily Roberts, bassist Georgia Davies and keys player Aurora Nishevci \u2013\u00a0lift the curtain on their new era in\u00a0the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/media\/read\/the-last-dinner-party-cover-the-november-edition-of-music-week\/092802\">November edition<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0<em>Music Week<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe wanted to take some risks in an artistic way, like in the lyrics, and push where we can go genre-wise,\u201d said Nishevci, s<span>peaking in this month&#8217;s cover story<\/span>. \u201cIt was about asking, \u2018How can we make it more sparse?\u2019 It\u2019s easy to make it full and then you\u2019re hidden behind all of this music. We wanted to explore what it is to sing at the piano and be vulnerable in that way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In the interview with <em>Music Week<\/em>&#8216;s Anna Fielding, Mayland shared her hopes for the record, which has been trailed by the singles <span>This Is the Killer Speaking, The Scythe and Second Best<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cHopefully we\u2019ll encourage other people to access their emotions; music is such a powerful way of doing that,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s also really exciting to play new music and have an opportunity to bring people together in a space that\u2019s all about positivity and feeling every inch of your emotions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Last Dinner Party debuted new songs at a special launch party at London&#8217;s Hoxton Hall this week. The invited audience of fans were encouraged to attend in medieval dress with some wearing chain mail and hooded capes.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The band, whose acclaimed debut Prelude To Ecstasy (123,066 sales) hit No.1 in February 2024 and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/talent\/read\/the-last-dinner-party-crowned-brits-rising-star-winners\/088972\">scooped their first BRIT, for Rising Star<\/a>, that same month. They added the BRIT Award for\u00a0Best New Artist to their collection 12 months later. Morris said making From The Pyre had brought the quintet even closer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIt\u2019s opened so many avenues for honesty and growing as friends and as collaborators and being challenged,\u201d said Morris. \u201cIt feels less scary to put it out, because we are looking after each other. I don\u2019t feel vulnerable because I\u2019ve bared my soul, instead I feel confident and safe.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>You need somewhere to play&#8230; You need that space, and that\u2019s being cut, desecrated<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\" dir=\"ltr\"><span><span>Aurora Nishevci<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">TLDP began working on the record in 2024 with Predule To Ecstasy producer <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/publishing\/read\/james-ford-signs-to-universal-music-publishing-group\/090422\">James Ford<\/a>,\u00a0<span>but turned to<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>MarkusDravs\u00a0following Ford<span>&#8216;s leukaemia diagnosis earlier this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><span>\u201cFor the first album with James, we had been playing the songs live for two years so it was a bit more straightforward,\u201d said Nishevci. \u201cFor this one, we\u2019ve had a shorter time together writing and we haven\u2019t played a lot of them live. So Markus saw us writing from scratch.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">After the band accepted their trophy for Best New Artist at the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/talent\/read\/brits-artists-add-their-voice-to-make-it-fair-campaign-against-government-ai-proposals\/091512\">2025 BRITs<\/a>, Davies used the moment to talk about grassroots venues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe wouldn\u2019t be a band without the UK\u2019s incredible independent venues,\u201d she said. \u201cThey are the lifeblood of the music industry. And they are dying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Nishevci told <em>Music Week<\/em>:\u00a0\u201cAnyone wanting to be a musician\u2026 you need somewhere to play. You\u2019ve got to share what you\u2019re doing with people. And where can you do that? You need that space, and that\u2019s being cut, desecrated. It\u2019s the same with club culture, it\u2019s all disappearing, so we\u2019re going to do what we can to help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/live\/read\/music-venue-trust-association-of-independent-promoters-align-on-predatory-pay-to-play\/092672\">Music Venue Trust<\/a>\u00a0recently thanked The Last Dinner Party \u201cfor donating \u00a31 from every ticket sold\u201d on their tour to them, while the group are also ambassadors for the Independent Venue Community. On their upcoming UK tour, the charity will work with local schools to connect pupils with touring staff.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThey\u2019ll shadow a bunch of people in our touring party, learning about different roles and responsibilities, and that you can have a career in music,\u201d said Davies. \u201cThat\u2019s not just being an artist, it\u2019s lighting design, monitor engineering\u2026 It\u2019s learning about all the ways that the industry functions in order to address some of the inequalities.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>You get this amazing opportunity and you know it could go away at any minute. You throw yourself in, head first<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\" dir=\"ltr\">Abigail Morris<\/p>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><span>Mayland added:\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201cSmaller bands and artists need more label support with tours. People are paying out of their own rent money to go on tour, to be able to sell their record.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In late 2024, the group cancelled a number of European dates after &#8220;pushing themselves past breaking point&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe bit off more than we could chew last year,\u201d said Davies. \u201cWe don\u2019t want to be saying, \u2018Oh, we have to tour\u2019 \u2013 we want to be like, \u2018Touring is great, we get to see all these places and see our fans in different countries.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Morris suggested that \u201cthere needs to be a little more <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/talent\/read\/spotify-launches-global-mental-health-initiative-for-music-community\/092132\">pastoral car<\/a>e\u201d for new artists across the music industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThat\u2019s not necessarily therapy or counselling, but more someone in the industry in a mentor role, giving a little bit of preparation and advice,\u201d she said. \u201cFor a lot of artists, us included, you\u2019re working really hard, you get signed, you get this amazing opportunity and you know it could go away at any minute. You throw yourself in, head first. You\u2019re just expected to go on and on until you\u2019ve had a breakdown and there\u2019s no one to prepare you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Last Dinner Party will begin a 35-date headline tour across Europe and Australia in November, including two nights at London&#8217;s O2 Academy Brixton.
