\u201cMark [Harmon]<\/a> said to us, \u2018I didn\u2019t know you guys were doing that, and there was no greater way to honor David [McCallum]<\/a> than to put his music [in], because David felt so passionate about his music,’\u201d NCIS<\/a>: Origins<\/a><\/em> executive producer David J. North<\/a> says of the upcoming tribute<\/a> to the late actor with Adam Campbell<\/a> reprising his role as the younger version. Adds EP Gina Lucita Monreal<\/a>, \u201cThere\u2019s three songs that he performed and he was very proud of his music, and we are so proud to put it in the episode and you\u2019ll see, it just fits so beautifully within what we were doing in the episode.\u201d<\/p>\n The episode, titled \u201cThe Edge,\u201d after one of McCallum\u2019s songs (which will be featured in the episode), airs on Tuesday, October 28. In it, Campbell\u2019s Ducky comes as a liaison from D.C. headquarters \u2014 he and Gibbs have met before, in 1980 (NCIS<\/em> Season 18 Episode 2, \u201cEverything Starts Somewhere\u201d) \u2014 to evaluate whether Pendleton needs an in-house medical examiner, but is that the only reason for his visit? We\u2019ll have to wait and see.<\/p>\n \u201cYou see the connection that Gibbs and Ducky shared and Mark and David McCallum shared through Austin [Stowell]<\/a> and Adam Campbell\u2019s portrayal of young Ducky,\u201d North tells TV Insider. \u201cGina and I were just in the sound studio with Mark Harmon doing his narration for that episode and seeing the emotion that Mark has towards David, and Mark is a huge fan of Adam who plays young Ducky, as was David McCallum. So, we\u2019re really excited. It\u2019s going to be a really special episode.\u201d<\/p>\n Adds Monreal, \u201cWe\u2019ll see both Gibbs and Ducky realize something about themselves that we know to be true about their characters in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n There are \u201cquite a few\u201d Easter eggs in that episode, teases North.<\/p>\n \u201cWe used David\u2019s hat \u2014 the hat that David used as Ducky, Adam has on in the show,\u201d reveals Monreal. (You can see it in the photo up top.) \u201cI believe his bag, too, and then it was just so special to go shoot in autopsy, where the mothership plays autopsy, where David McCallum spent years.\u201d<\/p>\n Explains North, \u201cIt was his stage for 20 years and to be up there,\u00a0 that felt wonderful, and it\u2019s really beautiful scenes that we did there. In those scenes, we will learn something pivotal about Ducky\u2019s character. Everything will suddenly make sense for people of something pivotal about him.\u201d<\/p>\n This will be Stowell\u2019s first episode working with Campbell; the actor played young Ducky in four\u00a0NCIS<\/em> episodes, and on the mothership, young Gibbs was played by Sean Harmon<\/a> (who is an exec producer on Origins<\/em>). \u201cDucky is undeniably charming, able to win over the grumpiest of grumps,\u201d notes Stowell<\/a>.<\/p>\n He shares that when he first signed on to play Gibbs in the prequel, he began binging all the episodes and would be folding laundry while watching. But when McCallum was onscreen, he would stop what he was doing. \u201cI couldn\u2019t help but fall in love with David McCallum\u2019s version of the character. It felt cozy and comfortable,\u201d he explains. \u201cThere was just something so alluring about him. And Adam, it is so easy to see why he was cast, that he\u2019s an incredible actor and he has that same magic. I almost want to call it like a Disney style comfort, that Pixar level comfort. There\u2019s a reason that we all love those movies, and there\u2019s a reason why we all love Ducky, and there\u2019s a reason that Gibbs is so connected to him and why their bond is so strong.\u201d<\/p>\n For Gibbs, it\u2019s easier to talk to someone not at NIS. After all, they\u2019re not coworkers just yet. \u201cHe\u2019s able to share parts of himself that he guards with other people,\u201d Stowell tells us.<\/p>\n
