Bad news, Big Brother <\/em>fans! Things aren\u2019t looking good for the long-running CBS reality show\u2019s spinoffs, Celebrity Big Brother<\/em> and Big Brother: Reindeer Games<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Big Brother <\/em>executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan shut down fans\u2019 hopes that either one of the spinoffs would be making a return in the near future<\/a> during an interview with Entertainment Weekly<\/em><\/a> published Friday. <\/p>\n

Celebrity Big Brother<\/em>, which features celebrity contestants competing in an abbreviated version of the beloved game show, last aired in 2022, when Season 3 was won by Miesha Tate<\/a>. Big Brother: Reindeer Games<\/em> only aired one season in 2023<\/a>, bringing past Big Brother <\/em>contestants together for a two-week holiday-themed competition amid the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. <\/p>\n

Asked if Celebrity Big Brother<\/em> would reclaim its place opposite the Winter Olympics this February, Grodner told EW<\/em>, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t look like it. I think it would be fantastic, but it\u2019s just other factors beyond our control. But you can ask CBS.\u201d<\/p>\n

A source at the network also confirmed that Reindeer Games <\/em>would not be airing in 2025<\/a>, but noted that it could possibly return in the future if CBS needed to fill a brief schedule hole. <\/p>\n

\u201cOh my God, we would love it to come back,\u201d Grodner said of the one-season spinoff. \u201cWe think it deserves to be out there, whether it\u2019s in the winter, whether it\u2019s summer games, spring games, or, you know, Halloween Horror Games<\/em>, or whatever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grodner noted that while it felt like the show itself \u201cworked really well,\u201d the disappointing ratings for Reindeer Games <\/em>\u201cprobably had a lot to do with the time of year\u201d in which it aired. <\/p>\n

Meehan pointed out that the show has been pitched to CBS as one that could work year-round. \u201cWe designed a format that could be skinned in any way,\u201d he said. \u201cIt could be a Halloween stunt, it could be a Christmas stunt, it could be for Valentine\u2019s Day, or even Easter Games could be fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think you have to teach an audience that it\u2019s there,\u201d reasoned Meehan. \u201cBecause I think our fans would love the show if everyone knew exactly when it was on. Because people are such [creatures of habit]. It\u2019s like, \u2018What\u2019s on in the summer?\u2019 and you show up and it\u2019s there. When you\u2019re trying to teach people new things, it takes a minute [for] everyone [to] know that this exists.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Meehan theorized that Reindeer Games<\/em>\u2018 potential return \u201cjust comes down to schedule availability\u201d in a packed lineup of scripted shows. \u201cCBS has a successful scripted business and ultimately, it\u2019s like, \u2018When do they need stuff?\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cBut we love it, we\u2019re always asking about it, and from talking to them, it\u2019s not like it\u2019s gone forever. It\u2019s just when is the right time and when do they have the airtime for it? Everybody at CBS loves it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t hear anything negative about it,\u201d agreed Grodner. \u201cIt would be great to see other alumni play<\/a>, but it\u2019s not in our control. We will produce it wherever anyone wants it. It just comes down to availability in the schedule.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
