Thursday night\u2019s episode of Law & Order: SVU<\/a><\/em> on NBC<\/a> welcomed back a beloved member of the titular squad. Sgt. Amanda Rollins, played by Kelli Giddish, returned to the unit run by Mariska Hargitay\u2019s Captain Olivia Benson, and it looks like the new Chief of Detectives may have played a part in it.<\/p>\n

Chief Kathryn Tynan suggests Rollins return to the squad<\/h2>\n

As reported by TV Line<\/a>, Benson has been meeting Chief of Detectives Kathryn Tynan (Noma Dumezweni) for monthly check-ins. At their most recent meet, Benson talks about her family, and Tynan uses it as an opportunity to convince Benson to take on a new position.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne benefit of working at 1PP and say, a newly created deputy chief position, is schedule. Reasonable hours, more time with the family,\u201d she says in the episode.<\/p>\n

Benson says she\u2019s not interested in a desk job, as she\u2019s in the field more than any other captain in the department. And Tynan knows that.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m out in the field because victims are in the field, and\u00a0that\u00a0is where I\u2019m the most useful,\u201d Benson says.<\/p>\n

When Tynan says she\u2019s \u201coffering you something you\u2019ll never want,\u201d Benson responds, \u201cPretty much.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when Tynan suggests bringing Rollins back to fill the vacant detective position on the squad following Detective Joe Velasco\u2019s (Octavio Pisano)\u00a0departure.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know that she was looking for a move,\u201d Benson tells Tynan, who explains Rollins is exploring potential opportunities.<\/p>\n

A skeptical Benson questions Tynan\u2019s motives, though she promises she\u2019s not being duplicitous.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anything, at most, I\u2019m trying to get you to like me,\u201d Tynan tells Benson. \u201cI know you take care of your people, and they are certainly loyal to you. I see no downside to shifting her back to SVU. Do you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Benson doesn\u2019t respond, but it\u2019s clear she\u2019s thinking about it.<\/p>\n
