The brothers emphasized that the spinoff isn\u2019t trying to mimic a sprawling sci-fi franchise.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s so different than something like Star Wars,\u201d Matt explained. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t really work like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Instead, the show will share the same \u201cbrand\u201d and \u201cstyle of storytelling\u201d \u2014 think kids, adventure, and sci-fi\/fantasy elements \u2014 without creating an overly complicated mythology.<\/p>\n
Ross elaborated: \u201cThey\u2019re going to live in a bit of a different world. There\u2019s going to be connective tissue, but you\u2019re almost anthologizing in a way. Because we\u2019re not Star Wars. We can\u2019t be like, \u2018Oh, now we\u2019re on this planet.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Matt added, \u201cYou\u2019re just too boxed in. It starts to get frustrating from a storytelling perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n
When Will the Spinoff Come Out?<\/h2>\n
While no official release date has been announced, Netflix\u2019s chief creative officer Bela Bajaria<\/strong> is ready when the Duffers are.<\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019d always love more Stranger Things,\u201d Bajaria said with a laugh. \u201cWhen they\u2019re ready, we\u2019ll be ready.\u201d<\/p>\n
The creators have reportedly been developing the concept for years, and Netflix is being patient \u2014 for now.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe hope is you\u2019re not just doing something to just do it,\u201d Matt said. \u201cAnd Netflix has been surprisingly patient, although I think now, I feel that patience wearing thin a little bit with the show coming to an end. But they\u2019re understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bajaria admitted even she doesn\u2019t fully know what the new series will be about:<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve been thinking about this for a long time,\u201d she said. \u201cSo I\u2019m excited about what it\u2019s going to be, but I don\u2019t know what that is yet!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
