Prince Andrew has announced he has given up his royal titles and honours after increased media scrutiny on the British royal.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made via the royal family’s website on Friday evening in the UK.<\/p>\n

Who is Prince Andrew?<\/h2>\n
Prince Andrew is King Charles III’s brother<\/strong>.<\/p>\n He is the third child of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Prince Andrew is listed on the Royal Family’s website<\/a> as eighth in line of succession<\/strong>, under Prince Harry and Meghan’s second child, Princess Lilibet.<\/p>\n The 65-year-old <\/strong>was in the UK’s Royal Navy<\/strong> from 1979 to 2001, after which he worked as a roving UK trade ambassador<\/strong> until 2011.<\/p>\n Yes.\u00a0<\/p>\n Because he is the son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, he is still technically a prince<\/strong> \u2014 and will continue to be referred to as such.\u00a0<\/p>\n Queen Elizabeth and Prince Andrew in 2018. (Reuters:\u00a0Peter Nicholls<\/span>)<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Even though he was commonly referred to as Prince Andrew, his official title was Duke of York.\u00a0<\/p>\n This is part of British royal tradition, Merriam-Webster’s website explains<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n “By tradition, only those born into the royal family can use ‘prince’ or ‘princess’ before their name and, other than the Prince of Wales \u2014 presumably to show his primacy \u2014 they are officially known by other titles,” it says.\u00a0<\/p>\n Princes and princesses may be given multiple titles across the ranks of the British nobility, typically going by the highest-ranking title.<\/p>\n Those titles are ranked below from highest to lowest:<\/p>\n Prince Andrew will no longer use the title Duke of York<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>\u2014 which his mother Queen Elizabeth II created for him after his marriage in 1986.<\/p>\n This also means his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, will no longer have the title of the Duchess of York.\u00a0<\/p>\n However, his daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, are still princesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n Prince Andrew’s daughters will still be referred to as Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.
