Keanu Reeves is officially an angel — at least he plays one in the new comedy, “Good Fortune.”<\/p>\n
It’s a film written, produced, directed and also starring Aziz Ansari.<\/p>\n
In the film, an angel takes a man who’s struggling under his wings to help him back to a better place in his life.<\/p>\n
Keanu Reeves is the angel, Aziz Ansari is the guy who needs a break and Seth Rogen plays a rich guy who hires him for odd jobs. When the angel oversteps his bounds to try and prove a point, suddenly, the poor guy is rich, the rich guy is poor, and they’re all in trouble!<\/p>\n
Reeves was happy to take on this angelic role for a couple of reasons.<\/p>\n
“First of all, working with Aziz and working with Seth and the script, you know, the story,” Reeves said, “The angel Gabriel is a beautiful role.”<\/p>\n
“It was just a lot of fun to play an angel who turns into a human and, you know, has his challenges and overcomes them and appreciates humanity,” Reeves said. “So it was just a lot of fun.”<\/p>\n
Ansari notes that there’s “some tricky subject matter” here since the comedy deals with his character dealing with life not going his way.<\/p>\n
“To me, that was a fun challenge to get all that stuff to make that very real, but at the same time, you’re laughing,” Ansari said. “And that was a fun challenge, and I feel like we pulled it off.”<\/p>\n
Along the way, the film makes stops all over Los Angeles, with places Angelenos may recognize. According to director Ansari, “We definitely wanted to show a particular vision of L.A. and the neighborhoods we picked and, you know, all these locations. There was a lot of thought behind it all.”<\/p>\n
“Good Fortune” is rated “R.” It’s new to theaters this weekend.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
