If you think that only older folks have to get pacemakers, think again. <\/p>\n
Julie Bowen<\/a>, whose best known for playing Claire Dunphy in the ABC sitcom \u201cModern Family<\/a>,\u201d recently revealed something that fans were not aware of. <\/p>\n While appearing on an episode of \u201cInside of You with Michael Rosenbaum\u201d podcast<\/a>, Bowen was asked if she ever had to have a surgery. <\/p>\n \u201cI do have a pacemaker\u2026 I forget about it all the time,\u201d she admitted.<\/p>\n Bowen then explained that she was diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome. <\/p>\n According to the Cleveland Clinic<\/a>, the condition could give you a heartbeat that\u2019s too slow, too fast, or a combination of both. <\/p>\n Rosenbaum told Bowen that he has a \u201clow resting heart rate,\u201d and Bowen noted that she used to as well. But since she got the pacemaker, her heart rate is set so it doesn\u2019t fall below 45 beats per minute. <\/p>\n \u201cWhen did they know this? Was this at birth?\u201d Rosenbaum had asked. <\/p>\n Bowen explained to the show host that she \u201cwas a runner all throughout high school,\u201d but she had \u201calways had a low heartrate\u201d<\/p>\n It wasn\u2019t until the actress noticed something strange while on vacation with her sister, who was then a medical student. Her sister was the one who discovered an irregularity and advised her to see a cardiologist. <\/p>\n After filming a pilot for a show, Bowen took the advice. Before she knew it, a procedure was scheduled for her to receive the pacemaker. <\/p>\n And this all happened when the actress was just 29-years-old. <\/p>\n She admitted the shock got to her, thinking a pacemaker at 29 meant her life was over. <\/p>\n \u201cWhenever I was relaxed, really relaxed, it would be like watching TV or movie or something, it was like I\u2019d been holding my breath for a while, that feeling of lightheadedness, and they said, \u2018You\u2019re going to be driving a car and you\u2019re going to kill somebody,\u2019\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n That\u2019s when Bowen made the imperative decision, by responding, \u201cGive me the (expletive) pacemaker.\u201d <\/p>\n If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
