While Epstein died by suicide in 2019 in a New York jail while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, Giuffre filed a federal lawsuit against the Prince Andrew <\/span>in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

The royal settled the suit the following year, <\/span>though he<\/span> has <\/span>continued to deny<\/span><\/a> that the two engaged in any sexual relations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have no recollection of ever meeting this lady,\u201d Andrew said during a <\/span>BBC Newsnight<\/span><\/em><\/a> interview at the time, \u201cnone whatsoever.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

“With the Queen’s approval and agreement, the Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to the Queen,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement in January of that year, per <\/span>BBC<\/span><\/a>. “The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen.”<\/span><\/p>\n
