Erin Murphy <\/strong>is best known for playing Tabitha Stephens on the 1960s sitcom Bewitched<\/em>. The series aired from 1954 to 1972 on ABC, and fans watched Murphy grow from a baby into a nose-twitching 7-year-old on the hit series.<\/p>\n But despite its popularity, Bewitched <\/em>didn\u2019t have an official series finale.<\/p>\n In an October 2025 interview with Remind<\/em> magazine<\/a>, Murphy, now 61, revealed she couldn\u2019t share any fond memories about the series finale because there wasn\u2019t one. Instead, the show just ended.<\/p>\n \u201cThe reason I have no special memories of the final episode is that it wasn\u2019t supposed to be the final episode,\u201d Murphy explained. \u201cWe all had contracts for two more years, our show had been picked up for two more seasons, and we went on hiatus like always, expecting to come back.\u201d<\/p>\n Murphy revealed that series star Elizabeth Montgomery<\/strong> made the decision to stop the show.<\/p>\n \u201cWe all received telegrams and letters which explained that Liz had decided not to do the show anymore, and that we wouldn\u2019t be coming back,\u201d Murphy said. \u201cThe final episode was just like any other week of the show.\u00a0None of us knew it was the final episode while we were filming it.\u201d<\/p>\n The actress added that there was no goodbye party at all, just the usual end-of-season wrap party the cast attended before being notified that the show was ending.<\/p>\n \ud83c\udfac<\/strong>SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox<\/strong><\/a>\ud83c\udfac<\/strong><\/p>\n A \u00a0post on a Bewitched<\/em> fan Facebook group<\/a> shows a letter that is allegedly from Bewitched <\/em>producer Harry Ackerman informing cast member Agnes Moorehead <\/strong>that \u201cBewitched will not be making any more shows.\u201d The apologetic EP added that the series had a \u201cfine run.\u201d The note is dated April 12, 1972, just weeks after the show\u2019s 254th and final episode aired on ABC.<\/p>\n The episode, titled \u201cThe Truth, Nothing But the Truth, So Help Me Sam,\u201d<\/a> was\u00a0a bit of a knock off of a previous episode, Season 2\u2019s\u201cSpeak the Truth.\u201d In both episodes, Moorehead\u2019s Endora character tested her son-in-law Darrin\u2019s honesty by putting a spell on him.<\/p>\n The end of Bewitched<\/em> came as Montgomery wanted to focus on other acting roles.<\/p>\n According to Bewitched<\/em> historian Herbie Pilato\u2019s book, Bewitched Forever<\/a>, <\/em>Montgomery decided to \u201cleave the party while it was still popping and move on to other projects.\u201d<\/p>\n Pilato noted that while CBS\u2019 All in the Family<\/em> aired opposite Bewitched<\/em> in the 1971-72 season, the fantasy sitcom was still popular enough to get a three-year renewal before Montgomery decided to step away.<\/p>\n Bewitched<\/em> found a new life in syndication the following year and remains on the air today.<\/p>\n As for the show\u2019s ending popularity, Murphy told Closer Weekly<\/em><\/a>, \u201cPeople like the magical aspect of it. \u2026 And I think it translates well to other languages, because it\u2019s a very visual show and there are different things that appeal to different people.\u201d<\/p>\n This story was originally reported by Parade<\/a> on Oct 18, 2025, where it first appeared in the News<\/a> section.
