It’s always a fun surprise when you find out certain unlikely friends of yours are actually huge reality-TV fans.<\/p>\n
Anyone who knows John Oliver<\/strong> personally is probably aware he loves The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City<\/em> \u2014 but for the rest of the world, it might come as a surprise.<\/p>\n The Emmy-winning TV host, 48, recently opened up to Us Weekly<\/em><\/a> about his admiration for the ladies of RHOSLC<\/em> before hosting this week’s Only Make Believe Gala.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s one of the best TV programs in any genre on television, and it\u2019s certainly one of the funniest, because they\u2019re very funny,” Oliver told the magazine on Monday, Oct. 13. “They are absolute monsters. They know exactly what they\u2019re doing. They do it incredibly well.”<\/p>\n The funnyman continued, What they\u2019re doing is not necessarily a net positive for humanity, but no one does it like them. They\u2019ve advanced the form of the Housewives formula, and they will burn out like a comet. You can\u2019t do it this well for this long and survive. One of them has already ended up in prison.”<\/p>\n As other fans of the show are well aware, RHOSLC<\/em> star Jen Shah<\/strong> was sentenced to 78 months in prison<\/a> for her role in a nationwide telemarketing fraud scheme following her 2021 arrest and indictment.<\/p>\n Shah, 52, had pled guilty to the charges in July of 2022, per Deadline<\/em><\/a>, as part of a plea deal after originally pleading not guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering and wire fraud in April of 2021.<\/p>\n \u201cJennifer Shah was a key participant in a nationwide scheme that targeted elderly, vulnerable victims,\u201d Damian Williams<\/strong>, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a statement at the time. \u201cThese victims were sold false promises of financial security but instead Shah and her co-conspirators defrauded them out of their savings and left them with nothing to show for it.”<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not sure she\u2019ll be the last,\u201d Oliver told Us Weekly<\/em> on Monday regarding Shah and her fellow cast members. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why they\u2019re so good at whatever it is they do.\u201d<\/p>\n This story was originally reported by Parade<\/a> on Oct 18, 2025, where it first appeared in the News<\/a> section.
