The History Of Sound actor Paul Mescal has said his \u201cadmiration\u201d for co-star Josh O\u2019Connor \u201cextended tenfold\u201d during the making of the film.<\/p>\n
The 29-year-old stars as Lionel in the movie, which follows his character\u2019s relationship with David (played by O\u2019Connor) after the pair meet in 1917 at the New England Conservatory, and following the First World War, before travelling together recording folk songs in rural Maine in winter 1920.<\/p>\n
Speaking about his friendship with O\u2019Connor, 35, at a screening of The History Of Sound at the BFI London Film Festival, Mescal told the PA news agency: \u201cWe\u2019re here to celebrate the film, and it\u2019s exciting.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean we were friends before, for sure, but I think this experience of shooting with him, and the admiration that I have for Josh extended tenfold after working with him.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just love spending time with him. It\u2019s a weird thing to be asked, \u2018What\u2019s it like to spend time with a great friend?\u2019, but it just was as I imagined\u2026 to spend time with him.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s just a remarkable human being, incredibly talented and a joy to spend time with.<\/p>\n
\u201cI suppose listening to traditional Irish music and the Irish countryside has always been a marvel to me, still is, like when you go into a pub in Ireland, and you just have these incredible musicians essentially improvising their way through an evening, it\u2019s just an amazing experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
O\u2019Connor told PA that Mescal is a \u201cbrilliant actor\u201d and added that it was \u201cso nice\u201d to be at the screening with friends.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cWe knew each other well enough before, and we knew this script so well that there was a kind of a shorthand between us, knowing what we\u2019re focused on really.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think music can transport you to a particular place, to specific memory, even this idea of synaesthesia, sometimes it can bring up a smell, or another sound.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo for me, there\u2019s all sorts, but Jeff Buckley\u2019s album Grace often transports me to certain places in my life, but it\u2019s ever changing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Directed by Oliver Hermanus, The History Of Sound will be released in UK cinemas on January 23.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
