Two huge Hollywood names, and yet their relationship largely flew under the radar \u2014 but it\u2019s true, Bradley Cooper<\/strong><\/a> and Ren\u00e9e Zellweger<\/strong><\/a> were in a serious relationship for a significant chunk of time way back when.<\/p>\n

Both talented, well-respected and easy on the eyes, they could have been a great match, so what went wrong? Let\u2019s delve through the celebrity relationship archives once more, where bootcut jeans and deleted tweets roam free \u2026<\/p>\n

How it Began<\/h3>\n

They met on a movie set but, despite such big names being attached, there\u2019s a strong chance you haven\u2019t seen the film in question. Horror movie Case 39<\/em> was shot in 2006, with Cooper and Zellweger playing best friends. After various setbacks, the project finally got its release in 2009 \u2014 and it was only then, on the promo trail, that the romance blossomed (maybe they even bonded over all the decidedly lukewarm reviews?)<\/p>\n

By then, Cooper was just becoming a big star, after breaking through in The Hangover<\/em>, while Zellweger, six years his senior, was already seriously A-list.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBradley Cooper has been romantically linked with some of Hollywood\u2019s biggest stars over the years, from Cameron Diaz to Ren\u00e9e Zellweger to Olivia Wilde. The Oscar nominee has only walked down the aisle once, getting engaged to actress Jennifer Esposito in October 2006. The pair tied the knot that December, but their union ended up [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

How Long it Lasted<\/h3>\n

Two very low-key years. They broke up in 2011 but, over the course of their relationship, they were only photographed together a handful of times and never officially confirmed the romance. Zellweger was still only a few years out from her five-month marriage to country singer Kenny Chesney,<\/strong> and understandably more cautious about going public with her personal life.<\/p>\n

In 2010, People<\/em> reported that the couple attended the Sundance Film Festival together, as well as spending a lot of time hanging out at Cooper\u2019s new home in Pacific Palisades, California. And this clearly wasn\u2019t a casual thing \u2014 Zellweger was even photographed shopping at CVS with Cooper\u2019s mom, Gloria. And when Cooper sadly lost his dad in January 2011, Zellweger skipped the Golden Globes to spend time with him in his native Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

At one point, there were even engagement rumors, which their reps denied \u2014\u00a0while cleverly still not confirming the relationship.<\/p>\n

How it Ended<\/h3>\n

There were rumors of tension in February 2011 when the couple didn\u2019t spend much time together at a pre-Oscars party but, a few weeks later, Zellweger went along to the Inside The Actor\u2019s Studio<\/em> set to support her man.<\/p>\n

By March, it was confirmed that the non-couple-couple had split after two years \u2014 and sources told Us Weekly<\/em> at the time that their careers were to blame. \u201cIf I had to pick any possible mistress, it would be Brad\u2019s career,\u201d a source told Us<\/em>. \u201cHe worked really hard to get into leading man status. Ren\u00e9e had to take a backseat. She\u2019s accomplished a lot of her professional goals, so Ren\u00e9e took some time out to be a great girlfriend and see if this is what it took to make a relationship work.\u201d<\/p>\n

What They Said About Each Other<\/h3>\n

When Details<\/em> asked Cooper about the relationship in 2009, his response was a disappointingly unjuicy \u201cI just can\u2019t\u201d but, on occasion, the secretive duo did break cover to be nice about each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a great actor,\u201d Zellweger told Entertainment Tonight<\/em> in 2009. \u201cI just got so excited, not believing that I was going to go to work with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cooper chipped in, \u201cI can\u2019t say enough about her. I just love her. I [loved] coming to work. I love acting with her. I can learn so much from her.\u201d Sure, sure, it\u2019s just her acting he loved \u2026<\/p>\n
