Keith Urban<\/a> has been professionally touring since 2001. In the past 24 years, he\u2019s learned a thing or two about what it takes to live on the road. Now, he\u2019s sharing that knowledge, plus the nuggets he\u2019s picked up as one of the most successful country acts of all time, with aspiring musicians in the new CBS show, The Road<\/u>.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, October 19, The Road premieres with 12 emerging musicians competing for the chance to be crowned America\u2019s next big country star. The test? They must give it their all as an opening act for Keith himself.<\/p>\n

While the show\u2019s premiere is just days away, rules for The Road remain scarce. According to The Daily Mail<\/u><\/a>, Keith revealed that it ultimately boils down to determining who has the calling and who doesn’t. \u201cIt\u2019s a calling, and you\u2019re going to do it or you\u2019re not going to make it,\u201d he says. \u201cWhen you wake up on a tour bus at 3:30 in the morning and you\u2019re sick as a dog, you\u2019re in the middle of nowhere, and you\u2019ve got to play your fifth show later that night.\u201d<\/p>\n

How Does The Road Work?<\/h2>\n

Beyond how they handle the challenges of living on the road, contestants will be evaluated for how well they connect with fans at the mid-size venues they\u2019re performing at. If they perform well, they move on to the next tour stop. If they don\u2019t, they\u2019re presumably booted from the competition.<\/p>\n

As for who\u2019s to judge the musicians, Keith will be joined by Blake Shelton, who is an executive producer of the show alongside Yellowstone\u2019s own, Taylor Sheridan<\/a>. Meanwhile, Gretchen Wilson will serve as the tour manager for all of the contestants. Suffice to say, with three early \u201800s icons, it\u2019s a competition music show that\u2019s already got fans in its grip. The live audiences will have a say in the winner.<\/p>\n

\u201cWoohoo! What a team,\u201d one fan commented on Instagram. \u201cSo excited to watch this,\u201d someone else wrote. \u201cThis will be amazing,\u201d another Instagrammer chimed in.<\/p>\n

What Does the Winner of The Road Get?<\/h2>\n

One performer will go home with more than just bragging rights! And the prize is a big one. Like most singing competition shows, the winner will receive a recording contract\u2014this one is from Country Road Records, a division of 101 Studios, in partnership with Thirty Tigers. Plus, they will get a $250,000 cash prize. Perhaps even better: The act will get a coveted slot on the Mane Stage at Stagecoach Country Music Festival 2026.<\/p>\n

Red Bull is upping the ante with additional prizes, including a spot at Red Bull Jukebox. They’re also giving two runners up five recording sessions at Red Bull Studio Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

The Road premieres Sunday, October 19, at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.<\/p>\n
