(Valley News Live) –Valley Con<\/a> welcomed stars from Broadway to blockbuster films this year, each bringing their own story of passion, persistence and purpose.<\/p>\n Kevin Grevioux<\/a>, Rae Lim<\/a> and Haviland Stillwell<\/a> sat down to discuss their unique paths into acting and the characters they\u2019ve portrayed.<\/p>\n Haviland Stillwell started young in the entertainment business.<\/p>\n \u201cI grew up in the business. I\u2019ve been acting since I was nine years old \u2014 working on Broadway, then television and film. I\u2019ve been very lucky,\u201d Stillwell said.<\/p>\n Rae Lim\u2019s acting career began later. She worked as a legal assistant until one role led her into voice acting.<\/p>\n \u201cMy agent put me up for a job that I thought was live action. I memorized the lines, walked into the booth, and thought, \u2018Oh dear \u2014 this isn\u2019t what I expected.\u2019 But I booked it because I was flexible,\u201d Lim said.<\/p>\n Kevin Grevioux, best known as Raze in the Underworld series, started his journey in science until a movie director changed his outlook.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen Spike Lee came out with She\u2019s Gotta Have It in \u201986, it changed my worldview. I realized it was possible \u2014 and did a complete 180 into film,\u201d Grevioux said.<\/p>\n Each actor said breaking into the entertainment industry takes more than just talent. It requires creativity, adaptability and drive.<\/p>\n \u201cThe way you navigate this industry is by diversifying your creative skills. If you\u2019re an actor, learn to direct. If you direct, learn to write. Keep expanding that creative lexicon,\u201d Grevioux said.<\/p>\n Stillwell emphasized the various pathways available to creative people.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are so many different pathways to being creative.
