Before his split from Nicole Kidman<\/strong><\/a>, Keith Urban<\/strong><\/a> performed a song on his new CBS show The Road<\/em> about \u201cwanting to break out of a soul-sucking\u201d routine.<\/p>\n

During the series premiere of The Road<\/em><\/a>, which aired on Sunday, October 19, Urban, 57, took the stage to sing \u201cStraight Line\u201d off his most recent album, High<\/em>. Urban previously reflected on the message behind the track ahead of his split from Kidman, 58.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the song that kicks off an album I\u2019m jonesing to share with you all. I chose it first for a lot of reasons, but particularly because I think it represents an energy and spirit that became a through line of the whole record,\u201d Urban wrote via Instagram in February 2024. \u201cI\u2019m gonna cover a lot of themes, emotions and vibes on this album but a very human spirit runs through them all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Urban credited \u201cStraight Line\u201d for starting a conversation about making a change.<\/p>\n

Us Weekly confirmed in September 2025 that the \u201cSomebody Like You\u201d singer and Nicole Kidman had separated after 19 years of marriage. Soon after, the Big Little Lies actress filed for divorce from her husband. \u201cThey had been quietly separated for a while now but needed [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201c\u2018Straight Line\u2019 is wanting to break out of a soul-sucking routine that you might be stuck in: maybe in a relationship, a job, with creativity, with yourself\u2026whatever it is !!\u201d he continued at the time. \u201cIt\u2019s a message of feeling alive again and getting out from under that dark cloud. If you\u2019ve seen us in concert, I hope it gives you that same feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier in the episode, Urban opened up about the highs and lows of life on tour.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWhere do we start? It\u2019s a calling, and you\u2019re going to do it or you\u2019re not going to make it,\u201d he explained. \u201cWhen you wake up on a tour bus at 3:30 in the morning and you\u2019re sick as a dog, you\u2019re in the middle of nowhere and you\u2019ve got to play your fifth show later that night, and you haven\u2019t slept, and you miss your friends, and you\u2019re missing your family, and you\u2019re completely lonely and miserable and sick \u2014 and you say to yourself, \u2018Why am I doing this?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Urban added: \u201cThe only answer can be: because this is what I\u2019m born to do. We\u2019re going to find out who\u2019s made for that stuff [on this show].\u201d<\/p>\n

The Road<\/em> follows 12 emerging musicians competing as opening acts for Urban while he tours across America. The contestants advance to the next city based on the reaction from the crowds at their respective shows. By the end of the season, only one act is left standing to take home $250,000 and a record deal.<\/a><\/p>\n

One month before The Road<\/em> premiered, Us Weekly<\/em> confirmed in September that Kidman and Urban split after 19 years of marriage. They originally met in 2005 following her divorce from Tom Cruise<\/strong>. After one year of dating, Kidman and Urban got married and expanded their family in 2008 with the arrival of daughter Sunday Rose. Two years later, Kidman and Urban welcomed daughter Faith via surrogate. (Kidman is also the mother of daughter Isabella and son Connor, whom she adopted with Cruise.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThroughout the years, Keith Urban penned several songs referencing his love story with Nicole Kidman prior to their September 2025 split. The pair met at the G\u2019Day USA Gala in 2005 and eventually tied the knot in June 2006. They went on to welcome daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret in July 2008 and December [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI have the most extraordinary partner in life. I will always say that about him,\u201d Kidman said in a 2019 interview with Entertainment Tonight. \u201cI\u2019m one of the very fortunate women in the world to have had a wonderful father, and I have a wonderful husband, and I\u2019m just very \u2014 I love to be able to say that because to talk about the good men that have influenced me and affected me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kidman was also honest about the work that went into her marriage.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re always working through stuff, but it\u2019s very much love-based, so there\u2019s an enormous amount of give and take,\u201d she explained in the September 2021 issue of Harper\u2019s Bazaar. \u201cI want him to have the best life he can have, and he responds the same way. We really love parenting together.\u201d<\/p>\n
