What does the great New York director Spike Lee<\/a> consider the most iconic New York movie?<\/p>\n Stephen Colbert<\/a> wanted to know.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, it wasn\u2019t actually shot in New York,\u201d Lee told Colbert. \u201cIt was shot in New Jersey.\u201d<\/p>\n Hoboken, specifically.<\/p>\n Lee called \u201cOn the Waterfront<\/a>\u201d his \u201cfavorite of all time.\u201d<\/p>\n The 1954 Oscar-winning Elia Kazan film stars Marlon Brando<\/a> and a cast including Newark native Eva Marie Saint<\/a>.<\/p>\n The answer was most pleasing to a New Jersey crowd.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you\u2019ve not seen \u2018On the Waterfront,\u2019 see it tonight,\u201d Lee told the audience Saturday at the Montclair Film Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Academy Award-winning filmmaker was in town for a conversation with Colbert<\/a> at the Wellmont Theater, where he received the festival\u2019s filmmaker tribute award.<\/p>\n Lee also talked about how he collaborated with \u201cOn the Waterfront\u201d screenwriter Budd Schulberg, who won an Oscar for the film.<\/p>\n
